SUMTER MASTICATION PROJECT

PRE-BID QUESTIONS

1. Pay schedule – Progress payment allowed?

Yes, when measureable amount of work completed and accepted by Forest Service – probably by unit, but no more often than every 2 weeks.

2. Treatment (contract) time – will the contractor be allowed the full 24 months to complete the project? The work is not anticipated to take the entire 24 months. Contractor will be expected to perform diligently and consistently. The extra time is allowed for unforeseen circumstances such as unusual weather conditions.

3. Secured storage area for equipment? No facility available.

4. Are the areas timbered or have they been harvested?

These areas have not been thinned or harvested in recent years. This question came up in regards to left over harvest debris and stumps.

5. What will be flagged and not flagged? Property line and archeological sites will be flagged. It will be the responsibility of the contractor to determine the 300 foot distance from the property line.

6. What method would be used for GPS ?– The area would be calculated using Trimble unit (GPS) after work was completed and payment will be made based on GPS acres.

7. How will the material be treated between trees greater than 5”in diameter but are too close together to allow cutter head to get access to them? Scattered spots throughout the treatment area could have material that needs treating, but has timber that the cutterhead won’t be able to get through. These areas may require handwork and/or mastication of a tree up to 7 inches. COR will approve the mastication of the larger trees. Most of these areas will occur along the roadsides, but could occur anywhere in the project.
