MARINE WEATHER CODES
– Notification Codes for Severe Weather Affecting Boat Transportation – Code 1. Normal Operations
· Sea conditions are calm to moderate; observed and forecast winds are not affecting boat schedules, though some unexpected delays could be possible.
Code 2. Weather Watch
· Currently, marine transportation is operating on or close to normal schedules.
· Sea conditions are moderate to rough; observed and forecast winds may affect boat schedules, cause passenger discomfort and necessitate cancellations, delays or early departures.
· Please check PIADC Transportation Center Information Line at 631-323-3323 (PIADC extension 3323) for the most current information available.
· Essential personnel as identified in the Severe Weather Plan should check with their supervisors for instructions.
Code 3. Limited Boat Schedule (NY, CT, or both):
· Sea conditions are rough to very rough; observed and forecast winds are causing delays and cancellations.
· Routine AM (7 AM and/or 8 AM OP to PI; 615 AM and/or 745 AM OS to PI) runs may be delayed, but work day is not canceled. Normal marine operations may resume as weather conditions change.
· A limited Weekend/Holiday Schedule may be operated and may be restricted to Essential Personnel. Non-Essential Personnel may be released for the day (a “weather day” for non-essential personnel).
· Essential personnel as identified in the Severe Weather Plan should check with their supervisors for instructions.
· All personnel should check the PIADC Transportation Center Information Line at 631-323-3323 (PIADC extension 3323) for information on next available boat – those personnel coming to work are expected to arrive in time for the next scheduled boat.
· Early dismissal during the normal work day: There will be early dismissal notification by email and/or telephonic notification on the island. Notification of limited or suspended later trips may be given. Personnel who need to remain on the island to complete work must contact their supervisor who will contact the FSSI Transportation Department to coordinate.
Code 4. Canceled Boat Schedule
· Sea conditions are currently or forecasted to be very rough; forecast winds are at or near “Storm” force.
· Marine transportation is suspended. The work day is canceled.
· Essential personnel, as identified in the Severe Weather Plan, should check with their supervisors for instructions.
· Trips will be made for essential personnel on a “case by case” basis after storm force winds have subsided. Weekend/holiday schedule will be used during that day if any operations are resumed. Personnel will check the PIADC Transportation Center Information Line at 631-323-3323 (PIADC extension 3323) for information on next available boat.
