b. Wire shall have a minimum breaking strength of 1,290 lbs per foot. Fenced enclosure shall be 6 feet in height and have twisted and barbed finish at both top and bottom selvages.
c. Tension wire shall be 7 gage, galvanized wire.
2. Galvanizing
All fence/gate materials shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication, weaving, or welding is complete in accordance with ASTM A392, Class II.
Castings and hardware shall be galvanized in accordance with ASTM A153.
c. All fabric, posts, and bracing shall have 2.0 oz. per square foot zinc coating.
3. End, corner, and gate posts shall be welded or seamless steel galvanized pipe conforming to the requirements of ASTM F1083, Schedule 40 (or equal), 3 inches O.D., weight 5.79 pounds per linear foot.
4. Line posts shall be round galvanized steel pipe conforming to the requirements of ASTM A53, Schedule 40 (or equal), 2 ½ inches O.D., weight 3.65 pounds per linear foot.
5. Top rail and braces shall be welded or seamless steel galvanized pipe conforming to the requirements of ASTM A53, Schedule 40., 1 5/8 inches O.D., weight 2.27 pounds per linear foot.
Tension wire shall be spiralled or crimped #7 gage (0.177) inches in diameter, conforming to ASTM A-824.
| 7. Top rail couplings are to be provided for approximately every 20 feet of top rail. | |
| Couplings to be outside sleeve type at least seven (7) inches long; one coupling in every | |
| five (5) to have a heavy spring to take up expansion and contraction of top rail. |
8. Fabric ties shall be No. 9 gauge aluminum wire.
9. Clamps and bands, top or brace rail clips, and stretcher bar bands are to be made of heavy stampings of the latest approved type, hot zinc coated, inclinable beveled edge type 3/8" diameter square shouldered aluminum carriage bolts, non-removable type.
10. Fabric bands are to be No. 6 gauge aluminum alloy of new improved self-taping design, eliminating unsightly buckles.
11. Supporting arms for barbed wire shall be set at an angle of 45 degrees facing toward the center and shall be fitted with clips or other means for attaching 3 strands of barbed wire. The top wire shall be 12 inches horizontally from the fence line and the other wires space uniformly between the top of the fence fabric and the outside strand. Barbed wire arm shall be on each line post, and gate post and shall be of sufficient strength to withstand a weight of 250 lbs. applied at the outer strange of barbed wire.
12. Barbed wire shall be in accordance with ASTM A121 Class 3 coating weight, 0.099 inch strand and 0.086 inch barbs (round), 4 points on 5 inch spacing.
13. Swing gates shall conform to ASTM F 900. The base materials of the gate frame shall be round members, schedule 40, 1 5/8 inches O.D., weight 2.27 pounds per linear foot, and welded at all corners or assembled with corner fittings. Gates assembled with corner fittings shall have adjustable truss rods 5/16 in. min. diameter on panels 5 ft. wide or wider. Truss rods shall be the same base metal and finish as the gate frames. Gate leaves shall have vertical interior bracing at maximum intervals of 8 ft. and shall have a horizontal interior member if the fabric height is 8 feet or more. Gate fabric shall be the same type as used in fence construction. Gate frame shall be designed and built at a width so that the outer members shall not sag in excess of the lesser of 1% of the gate leaf width or 2 in. Size of gate shall be measured from inside face to inside face of gate posts.
14. Shop Fabrication
| a. | All materials shall conform to ASTM F1184. |
| b. All material shall be clean. Posts shall be straight. Damaged material shall be cause for | |
| rejection. | |

| top rail shall pass through openings provided for that purpose in the post tops and each | |
| length shall be coupled with insert sleeve coupling. |
| 2. | Bracing to be spaced midway between top rail and ground to extend from terminal post to |
| first adjacent line post. Braces to be securely fastened to posts by suitable pressed steel | |
| connections, then trussed from line post back to terminal post with 3/8" round truss rod, | |
| with provisions for adjustment. Corner posts shall be braced the same as terminal posts but | |
| in both directions. |
3. Posts to be spaced in line of fence not farther apart than ten (10) foot centers.
| 4. | The height of top rail of fence, unless specified otherwise, to stand a nominal six (6) feet |
| above grade. |
| 5. | All posts shall be set in three (3) feet, 10 inch diameter, concrete footings crowned at the |
| top to shed water in soil. Concrete shall be 2000 psi. If bedrock is encountered posts may | |
| be set in a pilot hole 24" deep and grouted. |
All holes shall be approved by the C.O.R. prior to placing posts and concrete.
| 6. | Fabric shall be tied to line posts every 16 inches vertically and to top rail every 24 inches |
| horizontally. |
| 7. | Tension bars for attaching fabric to terminal posts and angle posts shall be attached to |
| terminal post by means of beveled edge bands. | |
| 8. | The chain link fence shall be erected plumb and true by experience workmen |
| and in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. |
