General Notes:
1. All turnouts and curve widened areas are considered part of the roadway and shall be included with surface blading/ditch & culvert cleaning work at no additional cost.
2. If brushing work is awarded as part of this contract it shall be completed prior to starting work on any other pay items included in the contract.
3. Road surface must be approved in writing by the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) prior to placing any aggregate on the road.
4. During removal of protruding rocks from roadbed and ditch lines, all suitable material shall be conserved and kept within the traveled way.
5. Backslopes shall not be undercut. Drainage structures and road appurtenances shall not be damaged during this operation and the contractor will be responsible for any damage that occurs from this operation. Handwork required to properly connect ditch flow lines to drainage structure inlets is incidental to Pay Item 306, Reconditioning of Roadbed. Any existing damaged culverts shall be brought to the COR’s attention for repair by the Forest Service.
6. When ditch bottoms are soft or if there is standing water present, avoid running the grader tire in the ditch. Reshape the ditch using the extended blade of a motor grader.
7. All suitable material excavated out of the ditch, and having the same character as the road surface, shall be reclaimed and used within the traveled way. Unsuitable material shall be wasted beyond and below the outer edge of the road shoulder or as directed by the Forest
Service representative. This includes spreading the unsuitable material along back slopes or fill slopes in such a way that maintains surface drainage and prevents the unsuitable material from being deposited onto the road surface.
8. Rocks protruding 2 inches or more above the existing road (or ditch) surface or which have an overall surface area greater than 2 square feet shall be removed in locations where identified in the description of work above.
