Project Name: Indian Creek Land Liming Project, Popular Run Project Location: Normalville, Fayette County, Pennsylvania Project Contracting Authority: USDA, NRCS, Lemont Furnace/Harrisburg, Pa Project Sponsor: Mountain Watershed Association Project Purpose: Provide lime spreading and lime dumping/leveling for watershed water quality improvements to offset the effects of acid mine drainage.

Overall Description of the Work: Purchase and deliver high calcium agricultural lime, a portion of the lime will be spread using a lime spreader and a portion of the lime will be dumped and leveled over a wide area. Settled lime from a quarry sediment basin was hauled to the sites last fall by a previous contract and this lime must also be spread and dumped/leveled.

Purchased Lime Requirement: All new lime to be purchased by this contract shall be high calcium (calcium carbonate equivalent 90% CCE or greater) lime. Lime certification test results are required. Lime shall come from the New Enterprise Everett/Bedford plant or an approved equal plant. Dry lime shall be used for the field application and damp lime shall be required for use as dumped/leveled. No settled lime from the quarry sediment basin will be purchased under this contract.

Use of settled lime from the quarry settling basin which was hauled and piled during Fall 2011: The settled lime from the quarry settling basin that was hauled and dumped during the Fall of 2011 is required to be handled as a part of this contract. The remaining portion shall be leveled as described below or shall be loaded and moved to a different location on the farm or to an adjacent farm for final dumping/leveling or spreading. A portion of the settled lime shall be loaded and spread on the fields as directed below. Rocks/debris shall be removed from the settled lime as described below.

Maps: Maps and sketches are attached to assist in the identification of the farms and locations for this required work. Spot check assistance will be provided to answer questions from the NRCS office located at Lemont Furnace, Pa, 724-437-7971 ext 3 ask for Kevin or Susan.

Spreadsheet of farms and lime tonnages: A spread sheet is attached to direct approximate tonnages to be used at each farm to be used for spreading and dumping/leveling.

Payment: Payment for the new lime delivered to the site shall be per ton based on the certified weight slips. Payment for handling the lime from the Fall of 2011 will be based on lump sum.

Performance Time: After notice to proceed is given, 30 calendar days will be given to perform this work.

Dumped Lime : Dump truck loads of settled or purchased damp lime “high” in the landscape on the farm (near the watershed breaks if possible) as directed by the landowner/NRCS as per the sketches. Do not dump the lime in streams or flowing water, however dumping in areas of occasional intermittent flow, sod waterways, plow skips in fields, dry depressions where water flows on occasion, etc. are acceptable. All rocks/debris 4” and larger shall be removed from the lime hauled in 2011 and these rocks/debris are to be disposed of off the farm sites. A skid loader or equal will be used to level this pile of damp lime to a depth 3” or less. Some of this damp lime will need to be moved to other locations on the same farm or to new locations on an adjacent farm. (Background note: over time, direct rainfall and occasional intermittent flows are expected to slowly leach the water buffering qualities of the lime into the nearby surface and ground waters.)

Lime Spreading : Lime is intended to be spread at high rates on idle land, pasture, hay land, etc. to provide water buffering qualities to nearby surface and ground water. The ideal spreading rate is 15 tons per acre; however 10 ton or 7 ton per acre will be acceptable as previously agreed between NRCS and the individual landowners. Additional sorting of the settled lime may be necessary to run this settled lime through a lime spreader. Rocks and debris removed from the settled lime shall be disposed of off-site. Refer to the attached spreadsheet for farm location and estimated lime amounts.

Conclusion: Restore up all lime staging areas by rough grading with the loading equipment. Eliminate all ruts and leave the area with a positive grade. Remove all ruts caused by the hauling of the lime. Reseeding is not required.
