The Contractor's Questions and Answers are provided below:
Q: Can trees be left near the crossings if they will be in the berms along the side of the access road?
A: Yes, in most cases that will be our preference. We prefer minimal tree removal as the purpose of the tree clearing is purely for construction and the integrity of the installed practice, the goal is to leave as many trees as possible. The Contractor will need to consult with the Inspector for instances where a large tree (something in excess of 10 dbh) that is on the side of the access road.
Q: Is the cut (excavation) in the road deeper in some places compared to other locations on this job?
A: Yes, the amount of cut needed at each site may be approximated from the drawings. Specifically, drawing 4 of 4 shows the elevation of the existing road and the elevation of the planned crossing elevation.
Q: Where can excess earthfill be placed?
A: Earthfill generated from excavation operations to form the crossings at the proper elevations may be placed in the spoil disposal location identified on the drawings. Alternately, excess earthfill may be used to repair/stabilize the road in other locations where it is naturally less firm or it may be used to widen the road in areas of the crossings that are currently narrower than the planned 16 feet. The Inspector must be consulted and agree to the type and condition of earthfill used. Road need to be left in as good or better condition than originally found.
Q: Is an Army Corps of Engineers permit required?
A: NRCS obtains the ACOE permit required to do this work. The Contractor is not responsible for this permit.
Q: Are there areas for equipment turnaround and temporarily storing earthfill?
A: The existing legal access to the site is off of an unpaved (earthen/gravel road), which may be fortified with rock for ease of access during construction.

Q: Can the earthfill removed from the road be placed in the low wet areas to the left and the right?
A: No, it must be placed on a different section of the road, on the out parcel area or in one of the turnarounds.
Q: Is the crossing location exact?
A: No, it may be shifted slightly by the
Inspector to avoid large or numerous trees.
Q: Will hydroseeding be allowed?
A: Yes, please see attached documents for specific information.
