Bradford Fence Maintenance Questions & Answers (answers in red)
1) The solicitation specifies that the fence may be propped up with wooden support stakes, but then need to be replaced with metal stakes upon the next inspection. We have inspected some of the fences that are in the solicitation and noticed that quite a few of them already have wooded support stakes in place in many areas(some fences have 20+ wooden poles). My main question is whether we are going to be required to replace the existing wooden stakes/poles with metal ones upon the first inspection, or if they are not required to be replaced with metal stakes in this initial instance? Fences with existing wooden props will not need to be replaced. Areas were props are put in place from here on out will need to be tended by the contractor in accordance to contract specs.
2) Some fences have active timber harvesting occurring within them. Would we be responsible for fixing any logging damage to the fence, or is that going to be the responsibility of the timber harvester? If it is the responsibility of the harvester, are they required to meet the specs within this solicitation? The purchaser of the timber to be removed from the timber sales are responsible for putting the fence back up to meet specifications.
3) On some fences, it was observed that the woven wire was pieced together and were not stretched tight, as required in the solicitation specs. Would it be our responsibility to fix those areas? Those areas are not responsible to be fixed by the new contractor.
4) What was the price for this work last year? $25.50 to $30.00 per mile. Work was done by two different contractors last year.
5) How far can we travel between fences on an ATV and can horses be used rather than ATV’s. See Amendment 1 which addresses these questions.
6) How many miles of fence are there in each bid item? Approximately 50 miles each, East and West for the first year. The bid schedule evaluated quantity represents the miles of fence times 8 rounds of maintenance that will be done each year.
7) Do you get paid separately for fixing the fence say for instance, big tree falls on it you need to cut the tree off install 2 new post fix the wire and this takes about 2 hrs? Your price is to include fixing the fence unless the damage to the fence is more than 100 continuous feet or 200 intermittent feet. See spec 217 and 218.
No further questions will be answered due to the limited time remaining for submission of offers.
