USDA FOREST SERVICE PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS

SECTION 01200

MOBILIZATION PAYMENT PROCEDURES

1. PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

A. This work shall consist of preparatory work and operations necessary for the movement of personnel, equipment, supplies, and incidentals to the project site, and for all other work and operations that must be performed or that cause costs to be incurred prior to beginning work on the various items on the project site.

4. PART 4 - MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

4.01 PROGRESS PAYMENTS WILL BE MADE AS FOLLOWS:

A. When 5 percent or more of the original contract amount is earned from other pay items, 50 percent of the amount for mobilization, or 5 percent of the original contract amount, whichever is less, will be paid.

B. When 10 percent or more of the original contract amount is earned from other pay items, 100 percent of the amount for mobilization, or 10 percent of the original contract amount, whichever is less, will be paid.

C. Upon completion of all work on the project, any unpaid amount for mobilization will be paid.

D. The total of all payments shall not exceed the original contract amount for this item.

4.02 BASIS OF PAYMENT

A. Payment will be made under:

SECTION 07313

WOOD SHINGLES

1. PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 SUMMARY

A. This section specifies wood shingles and related appurtenances.

1.02 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Deliver material to the site, undamaged, with labels intact. Store out of the weather in a well ventilated area.

2. PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 MATERIALS

A. Wood Shingles

1. Blue Label, No. 1 Western Red Cedar (WRC), maximum width 10 inch, minimum width 4 inch.

B. Fasteners

1. Roofing nails, hot-dipped galvanized, manufactured according to ASTM A153-D specifications, 11 gauge or 12 gauge, 1-1/4 inch ring shanks with 3/8 inch to 7/16 inch diameter heads.

2. Equivalent stainless steel staples may be used in lieu of hot-dipped galvanized nails with the approval of the CO.

C. Felt.

1. ASTM D226, Type II, 30 pounds/square.

D. Valley Metal

1. 26 gauge steel, color to match existing.

E. Flashing.

1. 26 gauge galvanized steel, as needed to replace any damaged or unserviceable components.

3. PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 WOOD SHINGLES

A. Remove old shingles before beginning installation of new materials.

B. Install roofing felt, beginning at the eaves, and running parallel with eaves. Lap subsequent runs a minimum of 3” over the respective previous run.

C. Install all flashing prior to installing wood shingles.

D. Lay shingles with 5-1/2 inch exposure. Apply double starter course at eaves.

Project first course 1-1/2 inch beyond sheathing. Space shingles 1/4 inch apart and stagger joints 1-1/2 inch in adjacent courses. Joints in alternate courses shall not be in direct alignment.

E. If existing metal ridge cap cannot be reused, finish ridges "Boston Style" with concealed fastening.

F. Install metal flashing at intersections with vertical surfaces. Extend flashing 8 inches under shingles.

G. Apply shingles with two fasteners per shingle, 3/4 inch from the edge and not more than 1 inch above the exposure line.

4. PART 4 - MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

4.01 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT

A. Measurement will be of the completed roof system, including but not limited to labor, equipment, and materials to complete the installation.

4.02 BASIS OF PAYMENT

A. Payment will be at the Contract unit price for the roof including appurtenances.

B. Payment will be made under:
