Furnish and install traffic control devices before the start of construction operations.

CompactionEquipment.Compactionequipmentshallbecapableofobtaining
compactionrequirementswithoutdetrimentallyaffectingthecompactedmaterial.The
compactingunitsmaybeofanytype,providedtheyarecapableofcompactingeachliftof
materialasspecifiedandmeettheminimumrequirementscontainedherein.Minimum
requirementsforrollersareasfollows:
(a)Sheepsfoot,tamping,orgrid‐rollersshallbecapableofexertingaforceof250
poundsperinchofwidthofrollerdrum.
(b) Steelwheelrollers,otherthanvibratory,shallbecapableofexertingaforceofnot
lessthan250poundsperinchofwidthofthecompressionrollorrolls.
(c) Vibratorysteel‐wheelrollersshallhaveaminimumweightof6tons.The
compactorshallbeequippedwithamplitudeandfrequencycontrolsand
specificallydesignedtocompactthematerialonwhichitisused.
(d) Vibratorysteel‐wheelorgird‐rollersshallhaveaminimumweightof11tonsfor
breakingdownoversizematerials.Thecompactorshallbeequippedwith
amplitudeandfrequencycontrolsandspecificallydesignedtocompactthe
materialonwhichitisused.
(e) Pneumatic‐tirerollersshallhavesmoothtreadtiresofequalsizethatwillprovide
auniformcompactingpressureforthefullwidthoftherollerandcapableof
exertingagroundpressureofatleast80psi.

(f) Heavier compacting units may be required to achieve the specified density of the embankment.

204.12Ditches.Slope,grade,andshapeditches.Removeallprojectingroots,stumps,rock,
orsimilarmatter.Maintainallditchesinanopenconditionandfreefromleaves,sticks,and
otherdebris.
Formfurrowditchesbyplowingorusingotheracceptablemethodstoproduceacontinuous
furrow.Placeallexcavatedmaterialonthedownhillsidesothebottomoftheditchis
approximately18inchesbelowthecrestoftheloosematerial.Cleantheditchusingahand
shovel,ditcher,orothersuitablemethod.Shapetoprovidedrainagewithoutoverflow.
