Foot Note Items:

-The leave-tree spacing is an average and shall be varied up to 25% wider (+ 5 feet) to leave the most desirable trees.

-Leave-trees shall be the healthiest, most vigorous, and best-formed trees of the preferred species in the stand, as evidenced by the tallest height, largest crowns and crown ratios, straightest stems, and the least amount of damage or disease.

-Trees shall be cut up to 9.0” DBH which touch any portion of an overstory tree. Grand fir and lodgepole pine up to 9” DBH shall be cut up to a maximum spacing of 25’X25’ spacing.

-Remove all western juniper at least 2’ tall and under 11” DBH.

-Remove all trees with stated size specifications within 30’ of hardwood trees and mountain mahogany.

-Ten percent of the area will consist of “skips”. Skips will be unthinned areas of denser forest ¼ to 1 acres in size. Skips will not be located within 100’ of the unit boundary.

-Leave (do not cut) all trees within 100 feet of springs, bogs, seeps, or elk wallows. These areas shall count toward skip acreage.

-Ten percent of area will consist of “gaps”. Gaps are openings ¼ to 2 acres in size. These would preferably be placed in areas of heavy bug kill. Individual healthy ponderosa pine, western larch, and Douglas-fir should be left in gaps.

- From May 1st to June 30th crews will watch for lone elk, deer or antelope. Most of these animals readily move and avoid areas of human activity. However, if newborn fawns (antelope, mule deer) or elk calves are observed, the area should be avoided, allowing the mothers to move the young away from the project.

- Contractor shall report any new raptor nests within the unit or at the edge of the unit to the COR inspector.
