SPECIFICATIONS – All boundaries or unit corners are marked with black and orange striped flagging and orange tags or blue flags and blue tags.

*Some of the units have large areas that don’t have trees. These areas, expressed as percent, will be within the unit boundary but no work will be needed there. Approximate number of trees per acre are for treed acres and do not include these areas.

** All stem densities are an estimated average over units that vary from dense thickets to openings that don’t need treatment. The offeror is advised to visit the work sites to determine average cut trees per acre prior to submitting a offer. The offeror is responsible for determining the amount of work.

Species abbreviations are as follows: DF = Douglas-fir, ES = Englemann Spruce, LPP = Lodgepole Pine, PP = Ponderosa Pine, SAF = Subalpine Fir, WL = Western Larch, WRC = Western Red Cedar. WF= whipfall.

1/ For All Units

· Cut trees shall be 6.9 inches in DBH and smaller UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. All trees not intended for leave trees, larger than 1 foot in height shall be cut. No trees 7”DBH and larger shall be cut.

· No hardwoods shall be cut, unless otherwise specified.

· No trees marked in orange shall be cut.

· No cutting shall occur within 15 feet on either side of stream beds or springs (or further if specified).

· No tree shall be left hung up in another tree.

· Stump height shall not exceed 6 inches.

· Slash slash be lopped and scattered unless piling is prescribed. Slash depth shall not exceed 2 feet.

· Pullback slash 5 feet from forest boundaries, hand and machine fire lines and trees greater than 20 inches in DBH.

2/ For units where spacing is used rather than whipfalling only:

· Space off all trees 7.0 inches in DBH and greater (ie if spacing is 20x20, space next leave tree 20 feet from the 7” plus tree).

· Space trees according to minimum DBH and spacing specs in the above chart. Leave trees shall be the biggest and most vigorous, with best crown ratios and without signs of insect, disease or other damage. Do not select leave trees with signs of dwarf mistletoe, root rot, bark beetles, mechanical damage, flat tops or other signs of poor vigor.

· Where tree vigor and size are equal within a 1” size class, species preference is as follows: PP, WL, DF, ES, AF, LPP and WRC (unless otherwise stated).

· Shall not cut any trees marked in orange.

3/ Hiding cover (clumps of small trees and brush that reduce the viewing distance into the unit) from Forest Service roads 2148, 2149, 2150, 2086, and county road 514 shall be left where they currently exist for a distance of 10-20 feet on each side of the road. This is to reduce the ability to spot wildlife from the road.

4/ Cut brush down to encourage resprouting.

5/ Leave (don’t cut) western larch and ponderosa pine and space off them if unit is designated for spacing.

6/ Whipfall all Douglas fir less than 6.0 inches in DBH.

7/ Whipfall all SAF, ES and LPP less than 7.0 inches DBH.

8/ Whipfall all trees less than the designated DBH (see Max DBH Cut Limit in above chart) unless they are marked with orange paint or are excluded by #5/.

9/ All of the DF under 7”DBH shall be cut with one exception, where there is no tree over 7”DBH or any WL/PP of any size for a distance of 30’, thin the DF regeneration (under 7”DBH) 20 feet apart leaving the largest tree with the most crown ratio and no evidence of dwarf mistletoe.

10/ WL and PP over 6 feet tall and under 7” DBH shall be thinned to a 16 foot spacing

Whip fall trees less than 7.0 inches in DBH east of the 2086 road, PCT 20x20 west of the 2086 road 11/ Whipfall except where there is no tree over 7”DBH for a distance of 30’, then thin the regeneration (under 7”DBH) 20x20 feet apart leaving the largest tree with the most crown ratio and no evidence of dwarf mistletoe. Use species preference of PP, WL, DF.

12/ Whipfall except where there is no tree over 5”DBH for a distance of 30’, then thin the regeneration (under 4.9”DBH) 20x20 feet apart leaving the largest tree with the most crown ratio and no evidence of dwarf mistletoe. Use species preference of PP, WL, DF.

Remove all conifers from within aspen clumps (5 or so feet from aspen). A clump is defined as a clone greater than 1/8 acre and more than 5 stems.

14/ Leave all ponderosa pine. PCT WL to stated spacing.

15/ Unit is on a closed road with a walk-in of less than ½ mile (unit 30 has only a small portion of walk-in.
