Solicitation Questions and answers for SOL # AG-0489-S-10-0078

1. Repair of rock walls: 6 Sections

Need clarification on exact locations of areas to be repaired. Will the contracting agency locate and mark areas per bid?

ANS: No, Government will not be available to locate before bid. The 6 sections that are in need of repair are ones that vary from the original wall.

A section can vary from one rock that has fallen off to several rocks that need to be replaced and mortar needing to be cleaned out and repaired.

2. Repair of sidewalk & curbs: 7 areas

Need clarification on exact locations of areas to be repaired. Will contracting agency locate and mark areas per bid? There are dozens of curb dings and about 10 sidewalk cracks, we need help identifying solicitation requirements.. Are ALL curbs in parking area to be cleaned, or only ones attached to sidewalks?

ANS: See Part 1 of Schedule of Items. No, Government will not locate pre bid. Part 1 limits the amount to 7 areas with description of what to expect and size. Every ding, dent and scratch would surpass that number.

Government is looking to get the 7 most damaged areas repaired. Only curbs that are attached to sidewalks will require cleaning and sealing (see

Part 1 distinguishing sidewalk curbs and not parking lot curbs).

ANS: All sidewalk expansion joints.

4. Visitor Center: When will Visitor Center open to the public and what will be days and hours

ANS: Coldwater Visitor Center is to remain closed to the public.

of operation?

5. Work Hours: Will there be any restrictions on work hours, and if so what will they be?

ANS: No

6. Water: Will water be available from Visitor Center or fire hydrants? Fire hydrants would be best source, if water is potable, or if “potable water required” portion of solicitation is lifted.

ANS: Yes, hydrant for use will be shown after award.

7. Public Access: If project begins after opening of Visitor Center and we are required to work around the public, what restrictions do you for see on our ability to block off areas to the public?

ANS: See note 4

8. On Site Storage/Rest-rooms: Will we be allowed to have a on site storage trailer for equipment and misc. materials? Can a portable rest-room be left in parking lot for duration of contract, or are rest-rooms in Visitor Center available?

Trojan Masonry Sealer should be between 70 and 100 degrees F’ prior to application. For optimum application properties, is there a heated storage location with in the Visitor

Center available for short term storage (24 hours) prior to application?

ANS: Yes, application will need to be initiated by contractor after award in regards to rest-room and storage trailer. In regards to sealer, contractor is responsible for storage and handling according to manufacturers recommendations.

9. Debris: Dirt and vegetation debris from cleaning of Rock Walls and Parking Area Curbs - Will we be required to move from site? Can we disperse it in surrounding area in location removed?

ANS: A place to dispose of cut vegetation will be provided if needed. For most areas, all that will be required is to scatter the small amount of vegetation that needs to be removed.

10. Many places in solicitation call for 300 psi – specs for cleaning materials call for 3000 psi – is it acceptable to pressure wash at higher psi that stated in solicitation (per manufacturers recommended spec)?

ANS: Specification for Cleaning (Sec 03920 3.3 D) calls for 100 to 400 psi to be used. Using a higher PSI then that risks damaging the existing concrete.
