Lolo National Forest, Invasive Species - Weed Mapping Protocols and Specifications
The task is to map 32 species of weeds on designated areas of the Lolo National Forest. Polygon and attribute data will be collected using portable data recorders following the agency protocol standards for the TESP/Invasive Species Application. If the system is not available, the data may be collected in ArcGIS 9.2 Personal Geodatabases with one feature class per species, per coverage type for later transfer to the corporate system. The attributes below will be collected for each site:
The data would follow the National inventory protocols and as a minimum would include the required field for Invasive Species Protocol described below.

Comments:
There is a great deal of weed dispersal occurring on Blue Mountain, as the area is frequented by large numbers of recreationists on bikes, horses, motorcycles, ATVs, vehicles, and hiking. It is also a common place for hiking dogs off leash. Nearly the entire area, with the exception of dense forested canopy, is infested with noxious weeds. Spotted knapweed has started to lightly infest closed logging roads in the SW corner of section 32 in the project area, little or no knapweed was found in these areas during the 2004 mapping. Within the forested areas of the survey, cheatgrass, spotted knapweed, common mullein, and sulfur cinquefoil are most common. Leafy spurge and common tansy infest more moist areas and along roads and trails. The open grassland area of section 3 is highly infested with several overlapping species, including field bindweed and tall tumble mustard.
