Original design data include the preliminary survey information, design assumptions, calculations, drawings, and presentation in the contract. Changes in the number of units DESIGNATED IN THE SCHEDULE OF ITEMS may be authorized under any of the following conditions:
(1) Changes in the work authorized by the CO.
(2) A determination by the CO that errors exist in the original design that cause a PAY ITEM quantity to change by 15 percent or more.

4. Each joint must be inspected by the Contractor personnel.
H. Thermal Fusing HDPE Pipe
1. Clean pipe ends thoroughly with cotton cloth. Assure no HDPE cuttings remain in the pipe. Face the pipe ends to establish clean, parallel mating surfaces. Continue facing until a minimal distance exists between the fixed and movable jaws. Provide a perfectly square face, perpendicular to the pipe centerline on each pipe end and with no detectable gap.
2. Align and round the pipe profiles with each other to minimize mismatch (high-low) of the pipe walls. Clamping jaws must be loosened during fusion. Clamp the pipe as close to the joint areas as possible to ensure proper pipe alignment.
3. Use heating tool with internal thermometer, assuring heater faces are clean, oil-free, and coat with a nonstick coating as recommended by the manufacturer. Periodically verify the proper surface temperature using a pyrometer of surface temperature measuring device.
Melt the pipe interfaces until the proper bead size is formed per manufacturer’s recommended temperature and bead size, without applying pressure.
4. Join the pipe ends rapidly, but carefully, with sufficient pressure to mix the pipe materials and form a homogenous joint. Follow manufacturer’s recommendations for internal pressure or bead size of molten material.
5. Hold molten joint immobile under pressure as indicated until cooled adequately to develop strength. Use cooling times established by the pipe manufacturer. Do not apply water, wet clothes, or similar to shorten cool time.
6. Each fused joint must have a complete double roll-back bead and be inspected by
Contractor personnel.
3.3 PRECAUTIONS
A. Load and unload pipe, fittings, valves, and accessories carefully to prevent damage. Do not permit pipe handled on skidways to skid or roll against pipe already on the ground. Do not drop or dump material into the trench.
B Preventive Measures During Construction: Precautions shall be taken to protect pipe interiors from contamination with dirt, dust, organic debris, oils, fuels, paints, or any other foreign material when in stockpile at the site and during installation.
C. Care shall be taken to protect pipe interiors from contamination after each day's work by plugging or otherwise preventing the entrance of dirt or mud.
D. Maintain a dry trench until pipe ends are sealed. Do not allow any trench water to enter the pipe at any time.
3.4 CURB STOP AND CURB BOX
Install curb box plumb on curb stop as shown on the drawings. Set the curb box top approximately 1-inch above natural grade. Hand place several shovels full of topsoil material flush with the cover and blend in with the natural grade.

3.7 TESTING
A. Notify CO at least 5 business days prior to performing testing.
B. Test required on all piping installed under this contract. All equipment required shall be provided by the Contractor.
C. After the pipe is laid, the joints completed, and the trench partially backfilled, leaving the joints exposed for inspection, the newly laid piping or any valve section of piping shall be subjected to a hydrostatic pressure test as listed below.
D. Expel all air from line before applying test pressure.
E. Test pressure 75 psi with no reduction in pressure in 10 minutes and no visible leaks.
F. Test must be observed by CO.

B. After completion of piping/plumbing work, the entire distribution system shall be disinfected. All materials and equipment required for disinfection shall be provided by the Contractor.
C. Coordination: Coordinate with CO prior to beginning chlorination procedure. Extreme caution must be taken to ensure that chlorinated water does not reach surface water.
D. The water lines shall be flushed, disinfected, and flushed again with potable water. Each flushing and disinfection step must be observed and approved by the CO.
E. Pipes shall be flushed until discharge is clear.
F. After initial flushing, a sodium hypochlorite solution shall be injected at locations described below to obtain a chlorine concentration of approximately 50 mg/l throughout the distribution system. Test all outlets and ends of pipe works to ensure chlorine solution has reached the entire distribution system.
G. Retain chlorine solution in the system for a minimum of 4 hours. Test for chlorine residual at representative number of outlets. If free chlorine residual is below 10 mg/l, repeat disinfection cycle. After disinfection, flush treated distribution system until the chlorine residual has been reduced to less than 1 mg/l.
H. Disposing of Chlorinated Water: Dispose of chlorinated water by methods that will ensure chlorinated water does not enter surface water courses or cause erosion.
