Figure 1 STA 217+65-Trail log states rock excavation and 20-30% sideslope.
Figure 2-Typical clearing and grubbing of project.
Figure 3-Very typical of the clearing and grubbing along entire project. This photo is typical of the average excavation effort.
Some excavation will have significantly more rock, while other areas are beargrass meadows.

This document is for visual aid in submitting your quote. In addition here is some site specific information.
The trail skirts the wilderness, the base of the Continental Divide and old logging units. While not many large diameter trees were encountered during the location, there could be a couple to avoid. Most of the trail is in lodgepole.
It is fairly easy to see what the most practical route is on Google Earth. Avoiding the rock cliffs and skirting the clear cuts were the main objectives while trying to stay high enough to give hikers a view, which is difficult in lodgepole.
There are some steep sections. The ridgeline going into Sullivan Creek Drainage, and the ridgeline leaving the Sullivan Drainage are both steep. Some of the new trail is along old trails that will require little excavation particularly coming off the steep ridge traveling towards Sullivan Creek. Excavation and Clearing and Grubbing are still pay items along the existing trails.
When heavy is denoted on the trail log for clearing and grubbing it means tightly grown new lodgepole that is difficult to walk through. Medium can be translated into lodgepole and doug fir you can easily walk through. Segments denoted as meadow or light clearing are through bear grass strewn old logging units. The photos above are all “medium” clearing and grubbing (figure 3 above is the best depiction).
This project is average excavation and clearing and grubbing in comparison to other Beaverhead- Deerlodge projects.
There are some segments of rock excavation but these sections are not nearly as challenging as the segments from Waukena, Our Lady to Cleveland, Goldstone Pass or Homestake to Maud S.
The same surveyors that surveyed Konda-Champion, Upper Big Hole, Stone Lakes, Slag-a-Melt, and Our Lady Cleveland also surveyed this project. Similar notation for these projects is used for brushing effort and sideslopes.
Most comparable projects in recent years on the Beaverhead Deerlodge would include: Konda- Champion, Upper Big Hole, Thunderbolt, and Norton.
