Bentonite 725.30

Construction Requirements

310.03 Preparing Surface. Prepare the pond surface on which the bentonite is placed as shown on the plans.

Apply bentonite on relatively calm days to prevent significant loss of material. Grade surfaces to remove irregularities and large rocks. Use a mixture of 1 part bentonite to 5 parts native soil to fill any large holes or voids. Uniformly spread bentonite on the prepared surface at a rate of 5 pounds per square foot using a mechanical drop spreading device. Test at least four locations to confirm the required application rate is met. After the entire surface is covered, till bentonite 3”-

4” into the native soils using a disc, spike tooth harrow or other appropriate implement to produce a uniformly mixed layer. Mechanically compact the prepared surface by rolling or tamping.
