Mobility Air Forces Command and Control (MAF C2), Knowledge Management (KM) Support

Effective 22 Jan 2013

1. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES

1.1 Background

The Air Mobility Command (AMC) Directorate of Operations’ (A3) primary responsibility is to direct the operation of airlift, air refueling, special air missions, and aeromedical evacuations for US forces, providing efficient and effective air mobility operations for GLOBAL REACH response during peacetime, to include the full range of humanitarian, disaster relief, and contingency operations. This effort will provide the A3 with a single voice for establishing approved operational capabilities and derived requirements for all of the operational elements of air mobility to include Mobility Air Forces (MAF) Command and Control (C2). To that end, A3R has selected specific capabilities-based Knowledge Management (KM) processes and tools to assist in the processes managing the integration of MAF operational requirements into a strategic operational vision. We seek to provide the needed expertise to implement and institutionalize those processes and tools.

In addition, AMC and MAF operations are moving to leverage the fast pace of technology advancements to significantly enhance the Mobility team’s ability to plan, schedule, task, and direct the operations of

America’s air mobility forces worldwide. This effort envisions a common operating picture, real-time situational awareness, and airborne networking. A high degree of collaboration between the following will also be required: aircrews, maintenance resources, aerial ports, support forces, Air Traffic Control, threat awareness/warning nodes, the AMC Tanker Airlift Control Center (TACC), Command Control Communications Computers and Intelligence (C4I) systems, and US Air Force Air and Space Operations Centers (AOCs). As the command lead on operational requirements, the AMC/A3 is charged with the development of a strategic operational enterprise vision targeting integration, modernization, and interoperability within the Joint and Department of Defense (DoD) C4I structures. The overall goal is to ensure seamless policies, processes, and systems with net-centric, global assured connectivity throughout the MAF.
