Questions/Answers and Clarifications Amendment 0001 to Solicitation# 36C26326B0023
PN: 636-24-505, TR House Bathrooms Grand Island VA Medical Center
Clarifications:
1. Drawings/Plans for Building 5 are very limited. There is a total of three (3) Drawings/Plans available for Building 5:
• Building 05 Ground Floor Plan Architectural – Provided in the SAM.gov Attachments with this Amendment.
• Building 05 Ground Floor Plan Architectural with/Nominal Bathroom Dimensions - Provided with the original Solicitation on SAM.gov as “636-24-505 Bathroom Nominal Dimensions – 1 page.pdf.” This is the same Drawing as above, but with the addition of two (2) bathroom nominal dimensions added. This is also the Drawing that was mentioned during the Site Visit as possibly being an 11” x 17” Drawing.
• Building 05 Basement Floor Plan Architectural – Provided in the SAM.gov Attachments with this Amendment.
2. Stainless steel exterior wrapped flex supply lines, with beveled rubber seals, are allowed for vanity faucet connections. However, some 1/4 in rigid chromed brass supply tubing and compression ferrules may be necessary for proper installation and connection of Mixing Valves. BUT – only after ¼ turn shut off valves as detailed in SOW details.
3. VA Engineering COR will provide nine (9) mixing valves to match brand used across campus.
4. Type L rigid copper piping is allowed for conversion and extension of water supply lines to shower, toilet and lavatories.
5. In order to minimize disruption and facilitate contractors’ ability to focus on one room at a time, contractors are allowed to demo wall around water and drain lines to gain necessary access for renovation. Keep as minimal as possible and ensure that opening will be covered by new lavatory base. Some rooms do have access panels for lavatories which are accessible from adjoining room. Use those if possible, VA will coordinate so adjoining room is open during workday.
Questions and Answers:
Q1: Can the PVC/DWV pipe be used to replumb the shower drains and vent in crawl space.
It has been approved in other areas of the hospital when we have performed work?
A1: Yes. Must be PVC Schedule 40, not lower spec DWV.

Q2: Can the showers be multi piece fiberglass or Vikrell material that attach directly to studs?
A2: Yes, with clarification:
a. Vikrell multi-layer material is highly preferred over fiberglass. Also, ensure its thickness is designed as rigid, stand-alone over studs.
b. If fiberglass, it should also be a substantially thicker wall surround designed for stand-alone direct to stud, NOT thinner fiberglass designed for adhesion to a structural wall.
Q3: Can the showers be center drain to help avoid structural obstacles in crawlspace?
A3: Yes.
Q4: Can the shower dimensions be 48” x 30” by 69” to 75” tall to accommodate room size and eliminate the need to move toilet flanges?
A4: Yes. COR agrees with structural limitation factors identified by Contractors during the Site Visit, that deviation must be allowed to achieve proper installation(s).
Q5: Can the vanities be 24” x 18” so they don’t cause issues with door opening and trim?
A5: Yes. COR agrees with structural limitation factors identified by Contractors during the Site Visit, that deviation must be allowed to achieve proper installation(s).
Q6: Will the VA provide tempering valves for lavatories, so they remain the same throughout the facility as stated by Ben Redman while on walk through inspection?
A6: No. Include tempering valves as included in base bid.
Q7: Can stainless steel toilet repair flanges be used if any of the cast iron flanges need repairs due to broken bolt slots or to raise existing flanges if necessary?
A7: Yes
Q8: Does the tile have to be removed prior to installation of LVP?
A8: No, but floor should be leveled if tile is not removed.

Q9: Do we need to add an exhaust fan in bathroom #11. This is the only bathroom that does not currently have one in place.
A9: Yes
Q10: With the bathrooms needing to be fully completed one by one due to being occupied, would it be acceptable to at least change out all 9 vanity lights in one visit verses spreading this across 9 separate visits.
A10: Yes, coordinate with COR/CO team.
Q11: Where is the designated location of the contractor laydown / staging area on the VA campus during construction?
A11: The Lay down area is approximately in red rectangular area on the map.
