Contractor Questions:

1. Hardware set 3 for opening 107A on the attached plan page shows a detention lock, but the attached cut sheet shows that the lock is not for use on full size doors. We believe this may be an error on the plans and intend to quote a grade 1 mortise lock instead?

a. Response: The lock should be the Folger Adam 60/60k lock. The key cut is 17AA2.

2. Will there be a change to the drainage for the Temporary Kitchen allowing for a pump to send waste to the existing manhole?

a. Response: Provide sewage ejector to serve temporary kitchen sanitary waste. Locate ejector and pit adjacent to trailers. Route discharge from ejector to existing manhole indicated on plans in lieu of gravity main. Ejector shall be capable of 20 ft head, 50 GPM, 208v, 3ph. Provide control panel, electrical utilities, and all accessories necessary for a fully functional system.

3. In the site visit it was discussed that an assumed 4' tall orange plastic fencing material was acceptable for a construction barrier but not as security. The only area that needs to be secured would then be the area where the job trailers and Port a Pots will be dropped. Is this correct? Note the security areas will be chain link with a concrete base.

a. Response: Correct. Orange plastic fencing shall be used as a construction barrier only.

4. When can the existing site drawings be viewed that show the routing of existing underground utilities?

a. Response: Drawings will be provided at a later date post-bid.

5. Will the Permanent Kitchen Smoke and Heat detectors need to be in operation daily? Meaning if they are taken out of service for any reason they would then need to return to service before the end of each day.

a. Response: Existing building fire alarm system will need to remain operational throughout construction. A fire watch will need to be provided for any period of time the building is not covered by the fire alarm system.

6. Confirm Working Hours again please?

A. Response: Work hours shall extend from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday unless requested and approved by the Warden.

7. Is the site primary metered on the electrical side? Will LGE/KU need to be notified for shutdowns? What all does the generator back up? Are there ways to isolate just the one transformer we are working on?

a. Response: The campus is primary metered at the 15kV switchgear at the front of the facility. The single transformer can be isolated via the S&C switch ‘PDS6A’ as indicated on the electrical drawing E001. Contractor shall verify any additional loads served from this switch prior to shut down and coordinate any outages with the facility.

8. Is there a tap for the natural gas or will one need to be cut. Is the PSI of the line we are tapping?

a. Response: There is no tap currently. One will need to be cut. PSI of existing main line is believed to be 10 PSI. Contractor shall verify pressure prior to performing any work.

9. What material if any will provide a base for the Temp trailers? Rock, DGA, Concrete?

a. Response: Provide DGA for base of temporary trailers. Compaction shall be determined by temporary trailer vendor(s).

10. Do the 2x4 lights in the kitchen require a documented disposal? (Fluorescent Lamps)

a. Response: Contractor shall follow all EPA guidelines for disposal of hazardous materials including fluorescent lamps not marked with low mercury caps.

11. What is the burial depth of the Electrical feeders that extend from the new temp kitchen service to the Kitchen Trailers?

a. Response: Minimum 36”. Refer to electrical duct bank detail on drawing E001.

12. Is the Fire Alarm manufacturer known? It was said that the Fire Alarm system was handled in house. What responsibility will the contractor have? Just Devices?

a. Response: Existing fire alarm system serving Kitchen building is Siemens. Refer to drawings for fire alarm scope.

13. Do the new 2x4 lights require independent support? Or just extra support near the fixture and the fixture anchored to the grid?

a. Response: Support light fixtures from at least two corners to structure above. Light fixtures shall be supported independent of the ceiling grid.

14. Does the Sprinkler system need to be active daily?

a. Response: Yes. See Fire Protection Notes 1-4 on FP100.

15. One drawing shows an existing lighting control system being removed. Will there be a replacement system? Or just standard switching? Can new conduits be surface mounted with Rigid for new switching?

a. Response: Standard switching shall be provided for new lights as indicated on drawings.

New switches may be mounted with rigid conduit if needed.

16. It was discussed that a closer location might be available for the storage trailer (that houses existing kitchen equipment) Can that area be shown on a site plan? Also can the notes include how much space is available for site trailers/ tool storage?

a. Response: Existing kitchen equipment storage trailer to be located in parking lot in front of facility. Facility indicated lay-down area can be located in paved areas between kitchen/dining building and the main dorm. Access for deliveries and emergency vehicle egress to be maintained at all times. All other trailers and tool storage that does not maintain access shall be located in parking lot in front of facility.

17. Has the overall building permit already been applied for, and are we responsible for the cost, or has the permit cost already been paid?

a. Response: Plumbing plans have been submitted. Building permit is in the submittal process and associated cost is not the responsibility of the contractor. Contractor shall be responsible for applying for all other permits and associated costs.

a. Response: No.

22. Can you clarify facility signage requirements indicated in the Special Conditions for our temporary facilities?

a. Response: Provide signage to indicate areas behind chain link fence are off limits or to identify safety hazards.

23. Can you clarify the requirements for the 40’ Storage “Trailer” that is to be located outside the facility perimeter security fence? Is the intent for this to be storage “containers”, or are you asking for office “trailer” type storage?

a. Response: Storage container(s) shall be provided to house kitchen equipment from permanent kitchen while permanent kitchen is under construction. Quantity of trailers to be determined by quantity of kitchen equipment.

24. For the Fenced-In Trash Area at the Temporary Kitchen location, can you clarify the chain link top cover that is required? As we understand, we are to not only provide temporary fencing around this perimeter, but also a lockable covering?

a. Response: Provided lockable chainlink fence over top of dumpsters so that dumpsters are completely behind locked fence on all sides. Provide means to swing gates to access dumpsters to discharge of trash and to remove dumpsters.
