About this file
This is an Addendum No. 1 to a Request for Proposals issued by Genesee Intermediate School District for the procurement of a Crane & Heavy Equipment Operator Simulator system. The addendum, dated October 27, 2020, addresses vendor questions received via email and clarifies GISD's requirements and openness to alternative proposals. The bid submission deadline remains November 3, 2020 at 2:00 PM. GISD seeks a simulator system capable of operating multiple pieces of heavy equipment as specified in Attachment B Part 1, with all other terms and conditions of the original RFP remaining in full force and effect.
The addendum confirms that GISD is open to alternative proposals from vendors that meet the specified requirements in Attachment B Part 1, including different approaches to achieving the required skills development curricula. However, GISD maintains that proposals must include the simulated equipment outlined in the primary requirements and does not accept substitutions for equipment types or elimination of specified features such as motion platforms or touchscreen interfaces. Notably, GISD indicated that the available budget is based on the lowest bid meeting the stated requirements in Attachment B Part 1, and the agency is open to proposals offering multiple simulator stations at equal or lower costs. The simulator system will be used across various GISD career center programs, with the intent to demonstrate skills earned during training to support operator certification for real heavy equipment operations.

Genesee Intermediate School District Career Technical Education Crane &
Heavy Equipment Operator Simulator
RFP
Addendum Number 1: dated
10/27/2020
This Addendum addresses vendor questions received via email. NOTE: The bid date for this
Request for Proposals remains unchanged, November 3, 2020 at 2:00 PM. All other terms and conditions of the bid shall remain in full force and effect.
Questions:
1. The requirements are sufficiently detailed to suggest that they are based upon a particular vendor's product. Is GISD open to alternative proposals from other vendors that can meet or exceed the skills development curricula offered in the specified software requirements at a lower cost of ownership?
a) GISD is open to alternative proposals that meet the requirements in Attachment B Part 1.
2. Would GISD accept an alternative proposal with a different mix of simulated equipment, specifically without Luffing Tower Crane, Crawler Crane, Articulated Dump Truck and Motor Grader?
a) GISD is looking for proposal with the simulated equipment outlined in Attachment B Part 1.
3. As a substitution for the above simulated equipment, would GISD accept an alternative proposal that includes simulated equipment for Skid Steer Loader, Off-Highway Truck (100-ton haul truck) and/or Forklift (warehouse style forklift)?
a) GISD is looking for proposals with the simulated equipment outlined in Attachment B Part 1.
4. Would GISD accept an alternative proposal for a simulator system that exceeds the skills development curricula at a lower total cost of ownership, but with less mechanical complexity, specifically:
• Without a Motion Platform
• Without a Touch screen
5. As a substitution for a Motion Platform, would GISD accept an alternative proposal for an immersive simulator system that consists of upto four (4) surround big-screen displays (still using just one computer), including 3 Front Displays and a Rear Display for driving in reverse, where needed, and an integrated Vibration System in the operator seat for vibrational feedback of contacts and collisions? See for example Simlog's Backhoe Loader Personal Simulator with Operator Chair and four surround displays:
https://www.simlog.com/product/backhoe-loader-personal-simulator/#operator-chair https://www.simlog.com/product/backhoe-loader-personal-simulator/#operator-chair
6. Will GISD be using the simulator system in conjunction with a practical exam for operator certification using real heavy equipment (i.e. NCCER Performance Verifications)?
a) GISD will be using the simulator system in a variety of ways with various career center programs. It is the intent that the simulator will be used to show skills earned during training to aid in operator certification for real heavy equipment.
7. Will GISD be using the simulator system in a workforce training program, such as a school-to-work program in partnership with local employers, or an adult education program for employees of local employers, or a "pre-apprenticeship program in partnership with the Union Local or other trade association?
a) GISD will be using the simulator for a variety of programming. It is too early to predict exactly where the simulator will be used.
8. Would GISD be open to an alternative proposal that provides two (2) simulator stations for the same cost or at a lower cost?
a) GISD is open to any proposal that meets the requirement laid out in Attachment B Part 1.
9. What is the dollar amount of the budget available for the purchase of the specified simulator system?
a) The budget available is based on the lowest bid which meets the requirements laid out in Attachment B Part 1.
