Addendum #2, page 2 of 2 April 16, 2024
Question (paraphrased): Will a milling item be provided for this job?
ANSWER: A separate milling item will not be provided. The contractor may determine the most appropriate method of accomplishing the work in a satisfactory manner, which may include milling, direct excavation, saw cutting, blading with a motor grader with a cutter blade or comparable equipment and or a combination of methods. The contractor’s method of accomplishing the pavement removal should provide a relatively smooth edge cut within the pavement area that does not have excessive gouges or breakouts along the edge of the pavement removal.
Question (paraphrased): Johnstonville Rd has a railroad crossing, are we required to start and stop relative to the railroad crossing?
ANSWER: The County will provide start and stop points on both sides of the railroad crossing so that railroad coordination is not required for work in the railroad right of way or near the rails.
Question (paraphrased): Will a grading and/or grassing item be provided for this job?
ANSWER: No separate grassing item is provided for this work. Magnitude of need will vary with contractor’s means and methods of preparing for pavement widening and may not be needed if milling type equipment is utilized. The contractor will be required to provide a smooth shoulder with no edge drop offs greater than 1.5” with grassing on disturbed areas as necessary. There is no separate payment for this work if required.
Question (paraphrased): Are portable advanced warning signs or post mounted ones required for this job?
ANSWER: Portable MUTCD compliant signs may be used if appropriate. If work by the contractor results in soft shoulders or drop-offs greater than 1.5” along the shoulder and where the shoulder repair is delayed permanently mounted signage is warranted.
Question (paraphrased): Are low/soft shoulder signs required?
ANSWER: The need will vary depending on the contractor’s means and methods of construction. These will be required if the shoulder disturbances are excessive due to the use of grading for pavement widening and or if pavement edge drop-offs greater than 1.5’ need to be corrected.
