About this file

This is Addendum No. 1 to a Request for Bids issued by the City of Asheville, North Carolina on August 25, 2026, for Public Works Fencing Repair and Replacement (Project Number 298-FY27-CMD-BID-PWFencing). The project scope includes repair and replacement of approximately 1,500 feet of fencing around the City's Public Works building and Fleet Management facilities, with approximately 780 linear feet of new fencing to be installed. The fencing material specified is 8-gauge black vinyl coated chain link fence with heights ranging from 6 to 8 feet depending on location. Installation will occur over both dirt and concrete surfaces, with existing fences to be removed only where necessary. The project includes installation of a 6-foot tall by 23-foot wide chain link cantilever gate with automatic operation, preferably programmable for area-specific operational needs, and requires inclusion of tension wire. The project is structured as a turnkey engagement requiring a single contractor to handle all phases from start to finish. Original bids were due September 4, 2026, with a pre-bid meeting held on August 17, 2026, at the Public Works Building, 161 South Charlotte Street, Asheville, NC 28801. Estimated construction start is September 21, 2026.

This addendum clarifies that special inspections and material testing previously identified in the original bid documents have been removed from project requirements, with the City no longer requiring coordination with Alpha Environmental for testing services. Bidders must acknowledge receipt of this addendum in their submittal to avoid being deemed non-responsive. The addendum addresses nine questions submitted by prospective bidders regarding project specifications, confirming turnkey delivery requirements, fence heights, materials, installation surfaces, gate specifications, and linear footage requirements. All bid documents are available at no cost from the City procurement website at www.ashevillenc.gov/bids, designated as the sole official source for solicitation materials and addenda.
