Summary: Addendum 1 – Prince Edward County Animal Shelter Door Hardware Specification

This document is Addendum 1 to the bidding documents for the Prince Edward County Animal Shelter project in Farmville, Virginia, issued by Moseley Designs architects on October 23, 2026, for Bid Request No. 2026-10-15. The addendum modifies the original Project Manual and Drawings dated October 15, 2026, and introduces a new Section 087100 addressing door hardware requirements for the 4,233 square foot animal shelter facility. A Pre-Bid Conference was held on October 20, 2026, with attendance documentation available on the project website. The addendum adds new drawing documents and revises multiple existing architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings effective October 22, 2026. The specification establishes comprehensive requirements for mechanical and electrified door hardware, including cylindrical locks, exit devices, door closers, continuous hinges, thresholds, and electronic access control system components, with detailed installation, testing, and coordination procedures outlined throughout.

The specification mandates single-source procurement of each hardware type and requires suppliers to meet strict quality assurance standards, including minimum five years of documented experience and DHI-certified Architectural Hardware Consultants. Hardware warranty periods vary by component type, ranging from three years for electrical devices to thirty years for certain LCN closer series. Key requirements include compliance with NFPA, ANSI, and UL standards for fire-rated and smoke-control door assemblies, accessibility compliance per ADA regulations, and coordination with Division 28 for electrified hardware power supplies and access control systems. The specification details an extensive hardware schedule with nineteen distinct hardware groups for various door types, keying systems requiring factory registration with patented high-security cylinders, and comprehensive submittal requirements including product data, riser diagrams, hardware schedules prepared by certified consultants, and post-installation wiring documentation. Final operations and maintenance data, as-installed hardware schedules, keying information, and warranties must be provided at project closeout.
