About this file

This is Addendum 01 to a competitive bid issued by Western Carolina University's Purchasing Department for Bid No. 00778, concerning the design and construction of an automated conveyor system for the College of Engineering. The addendum clarifies three key aspects of the original RFP based on bidder inquiries. Regarding equipment specifications, the university indicated openness to conveyor brands other than the originally specified Bosch Rexroth TS2Plus system, provided the alternative follows the Bosch design parameters (power and free conveyor with track opening for pallet access). The original delivery deadline of December 14, 2026, has been extended to mid-to-late March 2027 to accommodate typical conveyor lead times of 8-16 weeks plus additional engineering work. For cartesian gantry system components, the university stated no strong preference between Parker and Bell Everman suppliers, contingent upon meeting specifications and compatibility with the existing Allen-Bradley controls platform. The bid opening date and time remained set for September 14, 2026, at 2:00 PM ET.

Bidders were required to return one properly executed copy of the addendum prior to bid opening, with notification of whether their bid had already been mailed and whether any changes resulted from the addendum clarifications. The addendum does not specify pricing terms, set-asides, incumbent contractors, funding sources, or contract value. Bidders were permitted to submit questions through the September 14, 2026, proposal deadline. The procurement calls for an automation system integrator capable of detailed design and full construction, with the system intended to serve as an educational platform supporting repeated use by multiple student cohorts in robotics and automation laboratory exercises within the BS-Mechanical Engineering program and related certificate programs.

IMPORTANT BID ADDENDUM

Date: 9/4/2026

FAILURE TO RETURN THIS BID ADDENDUM IN ACCORDANCE WITH INSTRUCTIONS

MAY SUBJECT YOUR BID TO REJECTION ON THE AFFECTED ITEM(S).

Bid Number: 00778 Commodity: Conveyor system Addendum Number: 1 Opening Date/Time: 9/14/2026 at 2PM ET Agent:

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. The following concerns the above referenced bid:

Question: The RFP specifies the Bosch Rexroth TS2Plus conveyor. Are you open to any other brands? We represent MK and could provide a more cost efficient option using that brand. If you will only consider Bosch then we likely would not quote the project because we couldn't offer competitive pricing with Bosch.

Answer: I think we’d be ok with other conveyor brands/vendors as long as it follows the Bosch style we’re looking for (power and free conveyor with an opening between the tracks so we can access the pallets from the bottom).

Question: Your delivery deadline of December 14th is pretty tight. Normally conveyor lead times are 8-16 weeks, after which we would need to complete additional engineering work. I'd be surprised if any vendor could meet that deadline this late in the year.

Answer: I think it would be fine if this pushed into the Spring semester. I think if we had it by mid/late March, that would give us time to work with it in the Spring and Summer to have it ready for Fall 2027.

Question: Do you have any preference regarding the cartesian gantry system components?

We work with Parker and Bell Everman which are both high quality products. Would either of those be acceptable?

Answer: I personally don’t have a strong preference with components as long as they meet our specifications and are easy to integrate with our Allen-Bradley controls platform.
