About this file
This document is a United States Patent issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The patent grants the inventor(s) exclusive rights to their invention throughout the United States, preventing others from making, using, selling, or importing the patented invention.
The document includes critical details about patent maintenance and term length. Maintenance fees are required at three key intervals: three-and-a-half, seven-and-a-half, and eleven-and-a-half years after the patent grant date. The patent term varies depending on the filing date: for applications filed on or after June 8, 1995, the patent expires twenty years from the filing date, while applications filed before that date have a term of either seventeen years from the grant date or the twenty-year term, whichever is later. Failure to pay maintenance fees within the specified timeframes can result in patent expiration.
