About this file

This document contains Galveston District FY27 project descriptions for shallow draft maintenance dredging operations across three primary channels in South Texas. The three projects are: Channel to Victoria (CTV), Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) from Matagorda Bay to Port Isabel with tributary channels, and Channel to Harlingen (CTH). Each project requires pipeline dredge(s) capable of removing maintenance material and transporting dredged sediment to designated Dredged Material Placement Areas (DMPAs).

All three projects have identical minimum production requirements of 12,000 cubic yards per day. The CTV project requires dredging capability to -16 feet MLLW with transport distances ranging from direct local placement to several miles for upland and beneficial use sites. The GIWW project involves dredging to -17 feet MLLW with transport distances of a few miles up to 10 miles, utilizing multiple placement types including upland, semi-confined, open water, bird islands, thin-layer sea grass, marsh, and beach placements. The CTH project requires dredging to -17 feet MLLW with transport distances typically ranging from direct local placement up to 5 miles for upland placement areas. All projects involve the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, and utilize pipeline dredging equipment for maintenance operations along shallow draft navigation channels in Texas coastal waters.

Galveston District FY27 Project Descriptions - SDtB - Shallow Draft

Work for the Channel to Victoria (CTV) for maintenance dredging will require pipeline dredge(s).

The dredge(s) must have the capability to dredge maintenance material up to a depth of -16 ft MLLW and to transport the dredged sediment to a designated Dredged Material Placement Area

(DMPA).

Dredged material shall be placed in multiple DMPAs depending on the reach to be dredged and DMPA availability. Potential DMPAs include multiple upland placement areas along the CTV channel, and beneficial use site locations. The transport distance to the designated placement areas varies significantly, ranging from direct, local placement to a few miles for the upland placement areas and beneficial use sites.

Minimum Production required: 12,000 CY per Day
