About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details Mathworks' training and support services for the US Naval Test Pilot School (USNTPS) simulation laboratory at Patuxent River, MD. The primary objective is to update existing software applications built on Matlab/Simulink to leverage recent hardware upgrades in the simulation laboratory. Key deliverables include gathering training requirements, preparing design plans with architecture improvements, refactoring existing code and models, and providing training on specific Mathworks products like App Designer, Upgrade Advisor Tool, and Upgrade Project Tool.

The period of performance is from September 1, 2025, through August 31, 2026, with the point of contact being Darren Wagner at Building 2168, 22783 Cedar Point Road, Patuxent River, MD. The scope of work focuses on the existing "Test Pilot School Simulator" (TPS) application, with specific emphasis on improving Simulink parameter management, input/output data management, and consolidating similar Simulink models. The project aims to modernize the simulation laboratory's software infrastructure to support the USNTPS mission of educating developmental test pilots, flight officers, and engineers.

Statement of Work for Mathworks Training and Support for US Naval Test Pilot School

1. Background

The US Naval Test Pilot School (USNTPS) simulation laboratory is an essential facility for executing the USNTPS mission to educate developmental test pilots, flight officers, and engineers. The hardware in the simulation laboratory recently went through an extensive upgrade to include the newest technologies in aviation (e.g., active inceptors), and the corresponding software needs to be updated to take full advantage of the new capabilities. Most of the existing software leverages a Matlab/Simulink foundation, and much of it was created many years ago in outdated versions of the Mathworks software.

2. Scope

Mathworks will provide training and support services to Naval Test Pilot School, Naval Test Wing Atlantic at Patuxent River, MD. Training and support will be conducted on existing application “Test Pilot School Simulator” (TPS) using MATLAB and Simulink.

3. Deliverables

• Gather Training Requirements: Project context, adjacencies, identify requirements, and confirm use cases. Investigate, study and prepare material related to current training requirements.

• Prepare Design Plans: Document the requirements and prepare plans for architecture improvements. Include initial concept plans like wireframe drawings of the updated application, workflow diagrams showing the use cases of the simulator, and UML diagrams of any proposed object-oriented code to manage input parameters.

• Assist with Refactor Code, Models and Apps: Propose/Provide recommendations and best practices for refactoring existing code and developing new applications. Assist with implementation examples based on the design plans, focusing on several areas:

o Simulink parameter management o Simulink input/output data management o Consolidation of similar Simulink models (e.g. merging similar model files into one)

• Train on specific Mathworks products: Provide training on general use of the MathWorks software tools and best practices to follow in software development.

o App Designer o Upgrade Advisor Tool o Upgrade Project Tool
