About this file
This document is a detailed Statement of Work (SOW) for a 5-ton overhead electric traveling (OET) training trolley to be installed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS) in Bremerton, Washington. The trolley is designed specifically for crane maintenance and inspection training purposes, featuring a double girder configuration with radio remote operation, powered by 480 VAC, 3-phase, 60-Hertz electricity. Key technical specifications include separate hoist and trolley drive mechanisms, multiple brake systems, precise speed controls (hoist speeds of 2-40 feet per minute, trolley speeds of 5-75 feet per minute), and comprehensive safety features like limit switches, emergency stop functionality, and motor over-temperature protection.
The training trolley will be fabricated to meet stringent engineering standards, including CMAA #70, ASME B30.2, and OSHA regulations. It will include specialized components such as a Magnetek Series 5 VFD for the hoist, an Emerson Industrial Automation Control Techniques Mentor MP DC Drive for the trolley, and multiple brake systems (primary, secondary, and tertiary). The system will be painted safety yellow, feature an engineering workstation, and include extensive cybersecurity protections. The contractor will be responsible for detailed documentation, shop and field testing, installation, and providing eight hours of training for mechanics and electricians on the trolley's functions and maintenance.

1.2. Defini ons
Angularity – Angle of sha centerline measured from other sha centerline.
Collision forces (CF) – Defined per CMAA 70.
Coupling, Flexible - A mechanical means to connect drive sha s to transmit torque without slip and accommodate misalignment.
Coupling, Full Flex (double engagement) - A coupling that has flexible elements on each sha mounted hub (double engagement) such as: a geared hubs, flexible disc hubs, or slo ed hubs for grids. Full flex (double engagement) couplings transmit torque without slip and can accommodate angular and parallel offset misalignment between the sha s.
Coupling, Half flex (or semi flex) - A coupling that has one sha mounted hub with a flexible element and one rigid sha mounted hub (i.e. with no flex element). Half flex (single engagement) couplings transmit torque without slip and can accommodate only angular misalignment. Half flex couplings are commonly used to connect a floa ng (spacer) sha between two drive train sha s, or connect wire rope drums to reducer sha s (e.g. barrel coupling).
Coupling, Barrel – A semi-flexible type coupling used to drive a wire rope drum from a rota ng sha using barrel-shaped cylindrical roller elements to transmit torque.
Coupling, Rigid – A coupling that does not allow for any angularity or offset misalignment. Flange-to-flange sha connec ons are an example of a rigid-rigid coupling.
End Gap – Distance between the ends of two sha s a er coupling installa on.
Hoist Brake, Primary – A mechanical brake located nearest to the hois ng motor ac ng on the high-speed sha .
Hoist Brake, Secondary – A mechanical brake located furthest from the motor while s ll ac ng on the high-speed sha .
Hoist Brake, Ter ary – A mechanical brake ac ng on the final-drive sha or hoist drum.
Contract Number Section 1 - General 10
Holding Brake – A brake that does not set on a moving sha during normal opera ons, not including tes ng opera ons.
Joint Class I – Defined per AWS D14.1.
Joint Class II - Defined per AWS D14.1.
Load Bearing – Components are considered load bearing if they contribute to the support of any por on of the crane’s li ed or dead load.
Loss of Power Test – A test that removes supply power while the crane is hois ng or lowering a 125% load, simula ng a loss of power.
Offset – The ver cal and horizontal distance between the centerline of two sha s.
Sha , Floa ng – A torque transferring rota ng sha that is indirectly supported by only the bearings of the driving and driven equipment using semi-flexible couplings at each end.
Spliced Connec on – A connec on of two structural members where the two members are treated as one con nuous member.
Trainer - En re assembly of the Training Trolley to include the disconnect switch, control panel, trolley stand, trolley, and all equipment mounted thereon.
Welds, Primary – Defined per AWS D14.1.
Welds, Secondary – Defined per AWS D14.1.
