Site Address:

USACE Shady Creek Recreation Area 3550 Highway 22 Muscatine, IA 52761

1.2 SCOPE

This scope of work is for the installation of 15 feet by 20 feet concrete slabs and limited aggregate placement adjacent to the new slabs. Contractor shall complete the work by 1 May 2023.

Detailed information on the scope of work is below:

Approximately 6 inches of aggregate will need to be excavated at each location to allow for concrete placement to match specified elevations. Aggregate base shall be compacted prior to concrete placement. Excavated aggregate may be placed around final slab to create an apron.

4. The minimum compressive strength of the slab concrete shall be 4,500 psi. Air entrainment shall be 5 to 7 percent.

The WWF shall be placed on chairs that are properly spaced to support the WWF. Concrete trucks will not be allowed to drive over the rebar once it has been placed on chairs.

6. There shall be a 1/2 inch isolation joint (ASTM D 4819, Type II) installed between the new slabs and existing parking slabs. The joint shall be installed with backer rod and sealant.

7. Control joints are to be sawcut at 1/4 of the total slab depth at 7 feet (+/- 0.5ft) spacing in both directions. The saw blade shall be 1/8 inch in width. All sawing shall be completed within 16 hours after placement.

8. The slab shall have a lightly broom finish in a direction parallel to the parking slabs. Protect concrete against loss of moisture and rapid temperature changes for at least 7 days from the beginning of the curing operation.

9. Circular openings shall be formed in the corner of each slab for fire pits to be installed by others. Location of openings is indicated on included sketch. Openings shall be 3’-6” diameter and minimum of 12” from any slab edge.
