PART 3 – EXECUTION
3.1 Site Preparation (Manufacturer’s Recommendation)
3.1.1 All material, methods of construction, and testing & inspection shall conform to the applicable requirements of the codes and standards listed in the project specifications.
3.1.2 Stone shall be a minimum of 4” thick and down to firm subgrade. The vertical soil capacity under the stone shall be compacted to have a minimum bearing of 1,500 pounds per square foot (PSF). Stone shall be 3/8” or smaller followed by a course or topping of fines for final grading and compaction. Elevations and levelness of the prepared stone base shall be within ¼” in all directions.
3.1.3 Provide positive drainage around the building.
3.1.4 Provide Butyl Sealant between the vault and building floor.
3.2 Site Safety
3.2.1 Comply with all applicable OSHA standards for excavation.
3.2.2 No excavation will be left open without proper shielding or fencing.
3.3 Elevation
3.3.1 Excavate for the placement and installation of the toilet vault tank(s) to a depth that will allow the structure site to be free draining. After installation, the depth should allow for the stone base and leveling course beneath the toilet vault.
3.3.2 Finish floor elevation will be ½ - 1 inch above adjacent paved grade measured at the front (entrance) of the exterior slab.
3.3.3 The back of the building will be raised slightly higher to allow water to freely drain out of the toilet room(s). Positive elevation of ½ to 1 inch in total length of structure. Final building floor elevation to be within ± 0.05 feet of specified floor elevation.
3.4 Backfill and Compaction
3.4.1 Compact natural subgrade at the bottom of the vault excavation to a minimum vertical soil capacity of 1,500 PSF.
3.4.2 Install and compact stone base and leveling course to the specified elevation, ensuring levelness.
3.4.3 Set the vault(s) in place and check for proper alignment and levelness. Backfill around the structure(s) using excavated material suitable for backfilling or stone fill. Rocks or stone larger than 3 inches in maximum dimension shall be discarded.
3.4.4 Lift thickness for backfill material: loose lifts 6 inches for vibratory and static compaction respectively.
3.4.5 Use compaction equipment suited to achieve specified compaction for subgrade, stone base, and backfill. Vibrating equipment is used for compaction of course materials.
3.4.6 Intended final grade is flush with the top of the front floor slab. Allow for placement of topsoil to reach that grade (if required). Grade backfill away from the structure for positive drainage.
3.5 Pavement of Asphalt
The contractor shall lay new asphalt from the preexisting adjacent asphalt road to the foundation of the new structures. This includes the removal of soil to set the depth for replacement base stone and asphalt.
• The soil below shall be compacted to 1,500 PSF.
• A 2-inch layer of aggregate stone #57 will be spread and compacted above.
• The next layer shall consist of 4 inches of base asphalt followed by 2 inches of topping asphalt.
• Each of these layers shall be compacted using a roller to make a smooth surface without any deviation between the elevation of the building concrete pad and the preexisting road.
Site-Specific Asphalt Paving Areas:
• Peewees Site: The area to be paved is approximately 750 sq ft between the restroom and the road, including a tapered angle on the left and right of the building.
• Tail Race Site: The area to be paved is approximately 400 sq ft between the restroom and the road, including a tapered angle on the left and right of the building.
• For both sites: Shoulder stone will be added 6 inches from the edge of the asphalt pavement and taper down allowing for drainage and protection.
Note: Estimated paving amounts are approximate totals and not exact quantities. Due to the complexity of the buildings, the contractor is urged to do a pre-bid visit to determine exact quantities.
3.6 Submittals
The contractor shall submit the following to the COR:
• All manufacturers’ product literature, including methods and materials to be used.
• The manufacturer’s warranty covering the building against failure.
• The manufacturer’s warranty on the finish.
