About this file

This is a Purchase Description document specifying the acquisition of one Model 8.0 Heavy Duty Tiger Tug configured for the LUH-72A/EC145 helicopter. The tug must feature a center notch in the top frame to accommodate the MEPS (Modular Equipment Pod System) system and comply with standard Army Aviation Support Facilities configuration requirements. The Model 8.0 Heavy Duty variant is specified for high-frequency usage, extended travel distances, and operations on increased slopes between hangars and tarmacs, incorporating a 36V electrical system voltage instead of the standard 24V to minimize resistive heating and wiring overheating risks. The heavy-duty configuration includes an upgraded electric motor, corresponding transaxle, and dedicated motor controller to meet the enhanced operational demands.

The related federal contract opportunity (Solicitation FY26-0012427048) is issued by the Department of the Army National Guard as a Request for Quote (RFQ) for commercial items under NAICS code 333924 (Special Die and Tool, Die Set, Jig, and Fixture Manufacturing). The procurement is structured as a 100% Small Business set-aside with Firm Fixed Price (FFP) contract terms and FOB destination delivery. Award will be based on best value to the Government per Federal Acquisition Regulation Part 12 procedures, with evaluation conducted under the established evaluation scheme. The RFQ incorporates FAR and DFARS provisions effective through Federal Acquisition Circular 2024-05 and DFARS change notice 20240425.

1 Model 8.0 Heavy Duty Tiger Tug for LUH-72A / EC145 Center notch in the tug’s top frame to accommodate the MEPS system Tug Configuration:

All tugs built for Army Aviation Support Facilities have a notch in the center top frame to provide clearance for the helicopter’s MEPS system.

Model 8.0 Heavy Duty Overview:

Compared to the standard Model 8.0 tug, the Model 8.0 Heavy Duty tug incorporates several design changes for high frequency tug usage, longer travel distances, and/or increased slopes between the hangar and tarmac.

The Model 8.0 Heavy Duty tug utilizes a 36V system voltage instead of the standard 24V system voltage, which results in lower resistive heating of the tug’s wiring to reduce the potential for overheated wiring.

The Model 8.0 Heavy Duty tug also utilizes a more powerful electric motor and corresponding transaxle and dedicated motor controller. The photo below shows an example of the electric motor and transaxle at the r image1.emf image2.emf
