About this file

This is a Notice of Intent to Sole Source from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). The CDC intends to award a firm fixed-price purchase order to Bruker Scientific, LLC (40 Manning Road, Billerica, MA 01821-3915) for a DART JS Ion Source System with High Throughput Sampling (HTS) for use with Thermo Exploris mass spectrometers. The system will support chemical exposure assessment research and rapid ambient ionization capabilities, reducing helium consumption by 95% while enabling quick sample screening with minimal preparation. The instrumentation will enhance NIOSH's research capabilities for monitoring and characterizing substances including PFAS, pesticides, PAHs, chemicals in oil drilling fluids, and other analytes under investigation by the Chemical and Biological Monitoring Branch (CBMB).

The procurement will be awarded under FAR 6.103-1 and 10 U.S.C. 3204(a)(1) as a simplified acquisition in accordance with FAR Part 12 for commercial products. The NAICS code is 334516 - Manufacturing Analytical Laboratory Instruments and Instrumentation Systems. Although this is a notice of intent and not a request for competitive quotations, interested parties with capabilities to meet the requirement may submit a capability statement demonstrating their abilities. All responses must be emailed to contract specialist Felipe Cardenas at tpp5@cdc.gov by September 16, 2026. Phone calls will not be accepted. Intent to Sole Source – Bruker Scientific, LLC – Direct Analysis in Real Time (DART)

JumpShot ion source system with High Throughput Sampling (HTS)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute for Occupational

Safety and Health (NIOSH), Health Effects Laboratory Division (HELD), Chemical and

Biological Monitoring Branch (CBMB) hereby announces its intent to issue an award, sole source, firm fixed-price purchase order to Bruker Scientific, LLC, 40 Manning Road, Billerica, MA, 01821-3915.

The Chemical and Biological Monitoring Branch (CBMB), HELD, NIOSH requires the acquisition of a DART JS Ion Source System with High Throughput Sampling (HTS) for use with Thermo Exploris mass spectrometers. This instrumentation improves rapid ambient ionization capabilities, enhances throughput, and supports mission critical chemical exposure assessment research. The technology reduces helium consumption by 95% and provides rapid screening of samples with minimal preparation. The purpose of this acquisition is to obtain a

DART JS Ion Source System with High Throughput Sampling (HTS) to support long term chemical analysis and rapid screening of chemicals of concern in workplace settings. The system will directly enhance NIOSH research capabilities for monitoring and characterizing substances such as PFAS, pesticides, PAHs, chemicals present in oil drilling fluids, and other analytes currently under investigation within CBMB.

This contract action for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 6.103-1 and 10 U.S.C. 3204(a)(1).

The sole source procurement will be awarded as a simplified acquisition in accordance with FAR

Part 12 – Acquisition of Commercial Products and Commercial Supplies. The NAICS code for this request is 334516 - Manufacturing Analytical Laboratory Instruments and Instrumentation

Systems.
