Prime contractors interested in working at Canyon de Chelly National Monument, located in Chinle, AZ, the work will consist of:
Providing all labor, materials, tools and other equipment necessary for the removal and treatment of Russian olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia) and tamarisk (Tamarix sp.) trees, the removal and treatment of Russian olive and tamarisk tree resprouts, the treatment and control of secondary weeds, and the restoration of native vegetation at Canyon de Chelly National Monument (“CACH”). This vegetation removal and restoration project consists of ten treatment units located along Chinle Wash inside Canyon de Chelly. The treatment units collectively total 195.92 acres.
Russian olive and tamarisk tree infestation rates range from approximately 5% to 50% of treatment unit canopies. Approximately 58.16 acres of Russian olive and tamarisk trees are expected to be removed (by cut stump method), immediately treated with herbicide, and consolidated into 15 foot-diameter slash piles. Russian olive and tamarisk tree resprouts located within the designated treatment units are anticipated to be suppressed over two years using foliar herbicide applications and/or cut stump treatments with herbicide application. In addition, secondary weed control will be maintained over two years within all treatment areas. Approximately 50% of each treatment unit contains targeted secondary weeds. Revegetation will consist of a hydroseed application in one treatment unit after the two-year maintenance cycle ends for Russian olive/tamarisk tree suppression and secondary weed control.
