Project Description:

Project Conditions:

The project is located at Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

The construction magnitude is between $5,000,000 and $10,000,000.

The surrounding area is urban with limited staging located immediately adjacent to the existing building.

The construction site is 2 miles from nearest suppliers and lodging facilities.

The Park will remain open during construction, thus contract activities and logistics must be structured and scheduled to minimize visitor impact.

The site requires protective measures to ensure the surrounding area remains undisturbed.

The structure is a historic resource.

The anticipated period of performance of 450 calendar days including any potential weather shutdown.

There are seasonal/other shutdowns mandated through the construction season.

Winter construction may be required.

Hazardous material abatement will be required.

Project Scope:

This project will strengthen critical structural components of the Fort Mason Building 201 Headquarters Building for Golden Gate NRA. The 105-year-old 44,000 SF structure serves as the main Administrative Building for the park. The improvements will bring the building in to compliance with current seismic codes (California Historic

Building Code 8-706.1, CHBC 8-706.3 and ASCE 7-10, 41-13). This project will address the wood framed West

Wing of the building, approximately 26,000 SF of occupied space. This phase will install new steel moment frames within the core of the wing, install plywood shear panels on selected areas of the exterior walls, add and/or strengthen footings, improve connections between existing gravity members, and strengthen floor and roof diaphragms. The project will address seismic resiliency of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems in their respective wings. Completion of this project in phases allows less interruption to park operations through the temporary relocation of staff within existing space during construction. No additional temporary work space is envisioned.
