· 0001a: Mastication

· 0001b: Pruning Introduction - This mastication and hand pruning project will be focused along the southern forest boundary on the Dolores Ranger District. The primary purpose of this project is to reduce the understory and ladder fuels and provide a 200 ft. fuel break adjacent to the Wildland Urban Interface, state and private land boundary. The project is broken up into 3 segments covering an estimated 5 miles with an estimated acres of 106. Variable terrain and fuel types will be encountered within the project area including but not limited to Ponderosa Pine, Pinyon Pine, Juniper, Spruce, Fir, Gambell Oak and other woody vegetation.

Scope - Contractors are to provide all labor, supplies and equipment to masticate designated vegetation by mechanical means.

Purpose - The purpose of this mastication treatment is to prune up residual trees to raise crown heights in an effort to reduce crown fire potential. Also to thin and shred understory vegetation in ponderosa pine stands in order to improve overall stand health by reducing competition for sunlight and nutrients. Mainly to mitigate fire hazards by decreasing fuel continuity. The Project area is within the Wildland Urban Interface. It is at high risk of a high intensity crown fire potentially impacting adjacent private lands and residences.

Location of Project Area

Location: Legal Description (portions): Colorado, Montezuma County - T38N R15W Section: 32 - T38N R15W Sections: 27, 28 T38N R15W Sections: 1

A Project Area and a Contract Area Map showing the location of the Treatment Segment Units are attached to this soliciutation/contract.

Treatment Units: The location of the Treatment Unit Segments are shown on the Contract Area Map and lines will be delineated on the ground by USFS in the form of surveyors flagging. There are 3 treatment segments that based on the 200’contractor determined project boundary the treatment totals 106 acres.

Boundaries: The location of segment lines are marked with separate pink surveyor’s flagging. Operators must be equipped with a GPS or other device to determine project boundaries. Forest Service will provide shapefiles and/or georeferenced maps of the units.

Access to Project Areas - Refer to vicinity map Directions by segment

1. From Hwy 184 in Dolores, CO take Dolores/Norwood road to CR-W.00 turn left. Go 1 mile to the forest boundary

2. Forest Service Road 527 to Forest Service Road 259 to Forest Service Boundary

3. Forest Service Road 526 to the forest Boundary

Project Layout and Cultural Surveys by Contractor - All of the Treatment Units have been surveyed for all cultural sites and all sites were either avoided or flagged off during layout.

Agency will flag segment line on the ground and contractor will need to measure off of agency line 200’ to determine back side of the treatment unit boundary.

GOVERNMENT-FURNISHED PROPERTY AND SERVICES - Forest Service will provide georeferenced maps and/or KMZ or shapefiles to the contractor. No other Government-Furnished property is provided for this project.
