About this file

This solicitation requests an acoustic Doppler current profiler system to conduct streamflow measurements in rivers and streams for the Department of the Interior National Park Service Alaska Region. The technical requirements specify a need for an ADCP that can be mounted on a trimaran or similar tethered floating system with radio or Bluetooth communication. It must be capable of remote operations for up to one week at a time conducting measurements for 2-6 hours daily in shallow water conditions ranging from less than 0.5 meters to 5 meters depth. Total system weight and bulk are key considerations as the unit may be transported by helicopter or small fixed-wing aircraft. The preferred specifications include a remotely operated floating platform carrying the ADCP unit with integrated non-wired data communication to minimize battery recharging needs during extended remote field work.

Technical Requirements for Regional ADCP

The Natural Resource Science team needs an Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) to conduct streamflow measurements on rivers and streams in shallow water conditions ranging from less than 0.5m to 5m. The ADCP must be mounted/carried on a trimaran or similar tethered system with radio or bluetooth communication to the computer (not wired directly into the computer).

Involved operations are remote with limited opportunities for battery recharging, frequently for up to one week at a time, operating the equipment for 2-6 hours per day. Because the unit may be transported by helicopter or small fixed-wing aircraft, weight and bulk is a key consideration.

Basic Requirements Preferred total system weight <10 pounds (4.5kg) Depth range – 0.1-5m Operated on a trimaran or similar tethered system Radio or Bluetooth communication/data collection Differential GPS (DGPS) and bottom tracking capability Minimum 4 beams, 5 preferable Continuous operating time at least 6 hours Power system rechargeable in remote operating area or uses readily-available, off-the-shelf batteries
