Definition: Jack Rail is a free-standing steel fence consisting of A-frame braces (Jacks or Jack-legs or Jacklegs) connected by three or more horizontal steel pipes arrayed solely on the outermost (front) A- frame leg. Because of it its low maintenance requirements, it is used widely across public and private range-lands as a livestock-enclosure tool, while permitting access into enclosed areas to smaller, more-nimble wildlife.
Specifications:
1. Jack Braces (also known as “Uprights” or “A-fame” or “Jacks” or “Jack-legs” or “Jacklegs”): A-frame steel pipe uprights approximately 46” in height, constricted of 2 3/8” O.D. 11 gauge minimum carbon steel with 1 ¼” rail mounts (jack post rods) of 11-gauge minimum carbon steel.
1.1. The rail mounts shall affix to the uprights to permit horizontal rail placement at the following approximate heights (18”-30”-42”) measured perpendicular from the ground up.
2. Rails: Steel pipe of 1 ¾” O.D. 11 gauge-minimum carbon steel, 12’ to 20’ in length.
3. Extensions: Pipe sleeves that fit over the grounded ends of jack braces, permitting fence placement on topography that is uneven from the front to the back of the fence.
3.1. Leg extensions are approximately 3’ long, and are constructed of 11 gauge steel pipe (or better), with a 2 3/8” inside diameter. Nuts are welded onto holes drilled in the leg extensions, which permit placement and tightening of a 7/8” bolt, affixing the leg extension onto the jack leg. Alternative methods of securing leg extension onto the jack leg are permissible, if appropriately engineered.
4. Corners: Corners shall be flexible adapters with either two female ends or with a female and male ends.
4.1. Female-Male Corners
4.1.1. Shall consist of an Female collar and a Male rod which, when connected, are able to articulate. The Female collar shall be 1’6” long and crimped on one side. The inner diameter of the Female collar shall be 1 ½”. The male side shall be 2’ long and crimped on one side. The outer diameter shall be 1 1/3”. The crimped ends of the Female collar and the Male rod shall be connected by a ½” bolt secured with a Nyloc nut to prevent loosening.
4.2. Female-Female Corners
4.2.1. Shall consist of two female collars which, when connected, are able to articulate. Each Female collar shall be 2’ long and crimped on one side. The inner diameter of the Female collar shall be 1 ½”. The crimped end of the Female collars shall be connected by a ½” bolt secured with a Nyloc nut to prevent loosening.
4.3. These two types of corners can be utilized in a variety of ways to create corners and react to steep changes to topography down the length of the fence. The most common way to install a corner is with a Female-Male Corner. The female collar fits over the Jack Brace rail mount and the male rod fits into the 12’ rail.
5. Steel Fence Posts:
5.1. 5.5 feet green with white tip
5.2. “T” Bar Type
