Alaska Fire Service, Galena, AK Aviation Fuel Tank Anti-siphon Valve Replacement and Electrical Work

1.0 Background

The Alaska Fire Service is requesting bids to install an electrically activated (solenoid, normally closed) anti-siphon valve and an on/off switch for an aviation fuel tank located in Galena, AK. Currently, the tank has a spring-loaded anti-siphon valve which will be replaced. Additionally, the tank is wired such that the pump will only activate when a deadman switch is activated.

2.0 Objective

The successful bidder will provide and install a new on/off switch and replace the existing anti-siphon valve. The finished product will allow the installed solenoid anti-siphon valve to open when the pump is operating. Additionally, the pump will activate by either activating the deadman switch or by turning on the newly installed on/off switch.

3.0 Requirements

The successful bidder must be qualified to perform electrical and plumbing work on aviation fuel tanks. All plumbing materials must be aviation fuel (Jet A 50) compatible as well as arctic-rated. All electrical devices and connections must be rated for arctic conditions as well as be intrinsically safe.

4.0 Deliverables

Provide all labor and materials to accomplish the following work:

· Remove existing spring-loaded anti-siphon valve and replace with a 2” elbow.

· Remove the straight horizontal run of piping from the existing anti-siphon valve to the 90 degree elbow which enters the tank.

· Install an electrically activated, normally closed, solenoid valve (Morrison Bros. Co. 710MO-0200 1V or equivalent) and plumb it in place of the horizontal run between the location of the existing anti-siphon valve and the 90 degree elbow which enters the tank.

· Inside the fueling cabinet, provide and install an intrinsically safe on/off switch for a 10hp, 3PH, 215JP motor.

· Wire the pump so that the pump will activate when either the on/off switch is in the on position, or when the deadman switch is activated.

· All work will be tested and confirmed that the installation of the switch is functional, and the anti-siphon valve is functional and free of leaks.

Location and Period of Performance

· All work will be performed in Galena, AK.

· Proposed work schedule must be coordinated with Alaska Fire Service to ensure access to the tank.

· Work shall be completed no later than June 30th, 2022.

· Photos and blueprint of existing tank layout are attached.

· Transportation to and from Galena will be the responsibility of the vendor. Meals and lodging may be available in Galena through the Alaska Fire Service during the operational season which typically runs from May through September.
