About this file
This document is a specification for the purchase of crash cushions by Yellowstone National Park.
Yellowstone National Park requires the furnishing and delivery of 4 non-gating, re-directive crash cushions that are MASH Test Level 2 (TL-2) compliant and eligible for use on Federal-aid roadways. The specification uses a "Brand Name OR EQUAL" approach, with the TrafFix Devices TL-2 Non-Gating Re-Directive Crash Cushion as the basis for comparison. All units must be made and assembled in the United States. The crash cushions shall conform to AASHTO Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH), AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, FHWA eligibility requirements, and applicable State Department of Transportation Standard Specifications. The units must be non-gating and re-directive for all impact conditions, provide uniform energy attenuation across vehicle types, perform under extreme environmental conditions, and operate in both uni-directional and bi-directional modes. The design shall not utilize hydraulic cylinders, energy-absorbing cartridges or modules, cables, pulleys, or tension bars.
Each crash cushion shall weigh 1,460 pounds and have nominal dimensions of 13 feet in length, 30 inches in width, and 32 inches in height. Construction shall include steel thrie-beam fender panels and steel diaphragms supporting energy dissipation through a mechanical shear-bolt system. Units must be fully preassembled and ready for installation with a self-templating system allowing anchor bolt placement without external templates. The nose module attaches to concrete Jersey barriers using a minimum of four anchor bolts and is compatible with reinforced concrete, non-reinforced concrete, asphalt, and hybrid foundation types. The system shall accommodate multi-directional object markers with configurable Chevron, Left-Angle, or Right-Angle orientations that are field-adjustable without system replacement. Delivery is required to Yellowstone National Park, 22 Stable Street, Yellowstone WY 82190, with price including transportation costs. Contractors must submit manufacturer product data, MASH TL-2 compliance documentation, FHWA eligibility documentation, and installation manuals for acceptance verification.
