Attachment 1 – Technical Capability Questionnaire

TECHNICAL CAPABILITY QUESTIONNAIRE

BARE-ROOT and CONTAINER SEEDLINGS

NOTE: Technical section should address the below.

I. Adequacy of Facilities to Produce High-Quality Forest Seedlings

A. Nursery Soils (type, depth, drainage) Soil Series Description and classifications (as described by Soil Conservation Service Standards and Criteria). List soil types and depth to mottling and glazing, percent sand, clay, silt, and organic matter. Acreage available for this contract by soil type for production of Government requested seedlings. Include a map showing location of nursery beds and soil types and specific location of areas to be used to produce seedlings under this contract. List acreage that has been land leveled and has underground drainage that will be used for this contract. (Bare root only)

B. Nursery buildings, equipment, protective fencing, cold storage. (As applicable to container or bare root production)

1. Major equipment to be used in this contract. (State leased or owned, make, model, year).

Bare root

(a) Sowing equipment

(b) Lifting equipment and lift rate/day M seedlings.

(c) Cultivation spraying, wrenching, horizontal and vertical root pruning equipment, and fertilization equipment.

(d) Tractors

(e) Transplanting equipment

(f) Type of greenhouse facility (top, sides, floor).

(g) Heating and cooling system. Overhead or under tables.

(h) Container filling and packing equipment.

2. Cold storage facilities (state leased, owned or rented, and storage space dimensions).

(a) Distance from grading and packing facility.

(b) Dimensions (Length, Width & Height) and cooling capacity;

(i) Pre-cooler or 24 hour storage facility. (Length, Width & Height). State if 24 hour storage is capable of maintaining temperatures between 33 and 40o F.

Storage capacity (M seedlings).

(ii) After packing storage (M seedlings).

(iii)Ownership (leased, owned, or rented).

3. Grading and Packing facilities:

(a) Type construction, temperature controls, and dimensions; number of grading tables (type), pruning and packaging equipment.

(b) Distance from seedling production area.

(c) Production rate per 8 hour day - packing (8 hr days) M trees.

(d) Shipping container type.

4. State if protective fencing or natural barriers are present or scheduled for consideration to protect seedling from animal damage. (Bare root only)

5. Nursery's Annual Production Capacity (all applicable stock types and species packed for out planting). Production with current mix of stock types and species:

1. Water source (wells, river, pond, etc.).
