PART 2: PRODUCTS

2.1 MATERIAL

A. General: All piping, fittings and methods for connections shall be compatible for a potable water system.

B. High-Density Polyethylene Pipe (HDPE): NSF-61 Certified pipe, 200

PSI minimum, either Pure-Core meeting ASTM D2239 and AWWA C901 or HDPE SDR 11 OD Controlled Fusion Weld meeting ASTM D3035 and AWWA C901. The same pipe shall be used throughout.

C. Fittings/Adapters:

1. Fittings for Pure-Core Pipe: Mueller 110 Conductive

Compression Connection for CTS O.D. tubing. Fittings shall be used at connections as intended by manufacturer.

2. Fittings for Fusion Welded HDPE: CEPEX Polypropylene compression fittings specifically designed to be used for outside diameter controlled fusible HDPE pipe. Fittings shall be used at connections as intended by manufacturer.

3. General: Fittings required to connect HDPE pipe to flanges, tank, valves, hydrants, or other fittings shall be designed for potable water use. Use fittings as intended by manufacturer. Use the minimal number of fittings possible for connections.

D. Curb Valve/Curb Box: Valve shall be 1 ½” Brass, Mueller Mark II

Oriseal or approved qual. Curb box shall be extension type, and capable of extending from the valve/waterline to near the finished grade surface as shown on the drawings. Curb key shall be as recommended by the valve manufacturer, and compatible for use within the curb box. Rod length shall be as close to the final length of the curb box as feasible. Curb box shall include a cast-iron one-piece lid and tool required for opening/closing lid.

E. Hose Connection Vacuum Breakers: Lead free brass or nickel plated, self draining vacuum breaker, Arrowhead 59 APB or approved equal.

F. Hydrant: Cast iron head and handle, brass extension rod and ¾” brass spout, frost free, lead free. Minimum 69 inch total length, Campbell Model#YH-3 or approved equal.

G. Fiberglass Storage Tank: Tank shall be fiberglass, 2000 gallon capacity, 6 foot diameter. Tank shall comply with NSF Standard 61 requirements for potable water. Tank shall be constructed with a 2” reinforced outlet at one bottom end of the tank, shall have a factory green Gel-coated 30” diameter x 48” manway with a hinged lockable gasketed lid, and shall have 2, 4” NPT half couplings constructed into the tank top for installation of a fill pipe and vent pipe. Tank shall include a precast concrete anchoring (deadman) system with hold down straps as recommended and supplied

02514 - 3 by the manufacturer. Tank shall be as manufactured by Xerxes Corporation, 7901 Xerxes Avenue, Suite 201, Minneapolis, MN 55431, 952-887-1890, www.xerxescorp.com or approved equal. Alternate tanks shall meet or exceed all the salient dimension and design criteria and strengths of the specified tank.

H. Hauled Potable Water: The site does not have a potable water source. Water used for disinfection, for testing the tank/system for leaks, and for filling the tank after disinfection shall be hauled to the site by a CDPHE certified water hauler and shall comply with the applicable regulations in Regulation 11 of the Colorado Primary Drinking Water Regulations, 5 CCR 1002-11 (“Regulation 11”), according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Water Quality Division(CDPHE).

I. Cam Lock: 4” Male aluminum cam lock, with 4-inch male Goodyear

Aluminum Dust Cap with Locking Arms and FDA approved Buna-N Camlock Gasket, Type DC, Cap Connection Type 20139443 or approved equal.

J. Air Vent for Tank: As shown on the drawings.

K. Valve Box: HDPE, rectangular valve box with overlapping cover.

Top dimensions of box shall be approximately 16” x 12”. Height of valve box shall be 12”.

L. Geo-textile Fabric: 6-ounce non-woven geo-textile fabric, 160 lbs.

grab tensile strength, 65 lbs. trapezoid tear strength.

PART 3: EXECUTION

3.1 WATERLINE INSTALLATION

A. General: All materials used in the water system shall be compatible for potable water systems. The pipe shall not be covered until it has been checked for leaks, except for the section of roadway that is required to be kept open as described in Section 02322.

B. Waterline Installation: Construct as shown on the drawing, and as recommended by the appropriate manufacturer. Install the curb valve with curb box and rod near the tank outlet to isolate the tank as shown on the drawings. Install brass nipples on each side of the curb valve with adequate length to extend outside of the curb box. Install a union on the downstream side of each curb valve/nipple as shown on the drawings.

C. Depth: Bury piping at minimum depth of 30 inches below finished grade and as needed to gravity flow.

D. Hose Connection Vacuum Breaker: Install on hydrant at a 45-degree angle to level ground as instructed by manufacturer.

E. Hydrant: Install according to manufacturer’s instructions, and as shown on the drawings.

02514 - 4

F: Fiberglass Storage Tank: Install as instructed by the tank manufacturer and as shown on the drawings.

G: Hauled Potable Water: Water delivered to the site shall comply with the “Water Hauler Rule”, provided in section 11.41 of Regulation 11 of the Colorado Primary Drinking Water Regulations, 5 CCR 1002-11 (“Regulation 11”). Haul truck and equipment used to haul and supply water to the distribution system shall be in good and working condition, hoses and valves shall not leak. Fill tank by attaching fill hose to the cam lock. Ensure a tight, leak proof connection.

1. Haul truck and equipment shall be cleaned, disinfected, and filled as recommended by CDPHE. Water to be transported must carry a free chlorine residual of (1) ppm at the beginning of each haul.

H. Cam lock/Air Vent: Secure a length of plastic coated wire rope to the cam lock cover and to the horizonal section of pipe directly behind the cam fitting. Length of wire rope to be long enough to allow the cover to be easily secured to the cam fitting and short enough to prevent the cover from coming in contact with the ground.

Install as shown on the drawings and as instructed by the manufacturer(s).

I. Valve Box: Install as shown on the drawings and at the curb box location.

J. Geo-textile Fabric: Install the fabric between the primary and secondary fill materials as instructed by the tank manufacturer.
