Inyo National Forest (NF) Annual Hay Purchase Specifications

Product must meet the following specifications. Products that do not meet the following specifications may be determined unacceptable by the Federal Government.

Hay Type: Grass/Alfalfa hay (60%grass, 40% alfalfa)

Bale Size: Small bales (bales must weigh between 90-110 lbs. each)

Quality Requirements:

- Hay bales need to be of good quality, meaning they meet USDA premium #2 standards.

- Hay needs to be suitable for feeding riding and pack horses and mules.

- Hay does not need to be certified weed free; however, bales must be free of mold, noxious weeds or invasive weeds, free of inorganic matter, debris and non-suitable material.

- Bales must be consistent from one bale to the next throughout the load, meaning they are uniform in shape, weight and material throughout each flake.

- The following USDA Grades are unacceptable:

o USDA Grade #1 Supreme o USDA Grade #3 good o USDA Grade #4 fair
