Replacement of Entry Doors of Refuge Visitor Center
Located at Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge
Gautier, MS
Background
The Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge) in Gautier, Mississippi needs to replace 2 sets of double doors and frames (4 doors total) for the front entrance of the Refuge Visitor Center and one side being automatic doors that comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The current doors are outdated, damaged, do not meet ADA requirements, and need to be modernized to improve access for all visitors. The work site is located at 7200 Crane Lane in Gautier, MS. Contractors can work on this project 7:30 am until 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday, except on federal holidays.
Objectives
The objective of this project is to replace the old entrance doors and frame and install new automatic doors that are compliant with the ADA requirements at the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge. The new doors must be designed to accommodate individuals with disabilities, including those with mobility aids such as wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers.
Scope of Work
The scope of work for this project includes the following:
1. Site Assessment: Prior to submitting quotations for the work, the Contractor should visit the site with FWS project manager to finalize the Statement of Work. During the bidding timeline, a site visit will be available to evaluate the project. This assessment should consider the physical characteristics of the site and any existing architecture, and provide opportunities to submit questions to the Contracting Officer.
2. Door Selection: Our team will work with the vendor to select door designs that are in compliance with ADA requirements, energy efficient, and meet our budgetary constraints. Doors shall be secure and commercial rated suitable for the site. Doors may be industry standard brushed nickel color. One side of doors must be equipped with automatic openers, available to anyone for entrance and exiting of the building. Doors require panic opening requirements. Removable astragal is required for door frames both inside and outside
3. Installation: Contractor will remove and dispose of the old doors and install the new doors in compliance with the manufacturer's specifications and current ADA guidelines. The installation process will include framing, hanging the doors, hardware installation (Including locks), and weatherproofing.
1. An existing electrical circuit can be used only if that circuit can support the needs of the automatic doors as per a licensed electrician. If not, a new circuit would need to be installed as per a licensed electrician.
2. Outside push to enter automatic door openers can be wireless or wired.
3. A bollard with control button may be installed on existing walkway outside to control their operation, or another approved location or button design that would not impact ADA compliance or flow of traffic.
4. Inspection and Testing: Our team will conduct an inspection of the installation to ensure that it meets all technical, security, and design specifications. We will also conduct testing for accessibility, functionality, security, and safety of the automatic door mechanism.
5. Training: Once installation and testing are complete, our team will receive training on operating the new doors, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
6. Contractor must coordinate all installation with Refuge personnel.
7. Contractor will supply all material.
8. All demolition and scrap material shall become the contractor’s property and shall be removed from the site and disposed of in a legal manner.
9. Contract shall run all necessary electrical power needed for full operation of the system.
10. Attached images, show photos of the entrance way doors and their surroundings.
Deliverables
The following deliverables will be provided to the Refuge upon completion of the installation:
1. Installed ADA-compliant entrance doors
2. Installed ADA-compliant automatic entrance door(s) and required wiring and supplies to operate them.
3. Documentation of compliance with ADA requirements and building codes

Replacing the old entrance doors with new automatic doors that are ADA-compliant will improve the sustainability of the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge while creating an improved, safer, and welcoming environment for visitors.
