About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the purchase and installation of two self-contained emergency safety showers for the USGS Wetland and Aquatic Research Center (WARC).

The showers must be all-in-one ANSI Z358.1-2014 compliant enclosed combination cubicle units with integrated eye and face wash stations and sump pump systems for indoor laboratory use. Exterior dimensions are specified as 94.8" H by 40.2" W by 41.3" D. Each unit must operate at a minimum pressure of 29 PSI with a pull-down handle for manual activation, deliver 20 gallons per minute water flow that becomes hands-free after initial activation, and feature a ¼ HP sump pump with 120V electrical connection to remove water from the enclosed shower. Additional requirements include a full-length plastic strip screen to contain water spray, internally mounted hand-activated eye/face wash with capped ABS lids providing at least 3 gallons per minute flow, and stainless steel internal piping. The units must connect to existing building plumbing and electrical systems. The contractor must immediately notify the Contracting Officer if any difficulties arise in meeting performance requirements or delivery schedules. All work must comply with an extensive list of applicable standards and codes including the National Electrical Code, ICBO Uniform Building Code, NFPA codes, Uniform Plumbing and Mechanical Codes, OSHA 29 CFR 1910, and all applicable federal, state, and local building codes and requirements.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Two (2) Safety Showers and Installation

I. GENERAL INFORMATION

Introduction:

The USGS Wetland and Aquatic Research Center (WARC) provides USGS science throughout the Southeastern United States and elsewhere in the world. We also develop new and innovative ways to meet the critical need for sound, objective scientific information that can be applied to issues of local to international concern. As such, WARC conducts research in laboratories using corrosive chemicals and is required by American National Standards Institute - ANSI Z358.1-2014 to have safety showers within 10 seconds of the hazard with an unobstructed pathway. USGS wishes to purchase 2 self-contained emergency showers with eye and face wash units contained within the shower. The self-contained shower must have an integrated drain sump and strip screens to reduce the risk of contaminated water outside of the shower into the existing lab space. The showers will be installed within existing laboratory spaces with water and electrical connections.

II. WORK REQUIREMENTS

Technical requirements:

A. All-in-one ANSI compliant enclosed combination cubicle shower and eye/face wash with a sump pump for indoor use

B. Exterior cubicle dimensions- 94.8” H by 40.2” W by 41.3” D C. Minimum operating pressure 29 PSI (SHOWER) with pull down handle to initiate water flow with connection capacity to the existing building plumbing system D. Water flow within shower at 20 gallons per minute E. Water flow must be hands free after initial activation F. Sump pump ¼ HP with 120 V electrical to remove water from the enclosed shower G. Full length plastic strip screen to reduce water spray outside of cubicle H. Internally mounted eye/face wash that is hand activated with capped ABS lids I. Eye/face wash water flow at least 3 gallons per minute J. Unit internal piping made of stainless steel
