Requisition#

US GEOLOGICAL SURVEY

WOODS HOLE COASTAL AND MARINE SCIENCE CENTER

Marine Operations Facility (MOF) Falmouth, MA 02540

I. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The USGS - Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center (WHCMSC; the Center) needs to acquire sensors to measure water-quality parameters for ongoing and planned marsh monitoring projects in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. These sensors must be self-contained, self-powered, with a small form factor, and compatible with anti-fouling systems. The sensors must also be compatible with water quality sondes already used for WHCMSC research investigations. The following sensor characteristics are required:

· Sensors compatible for use with EXO2 water quality sondes that utilize an anti-fouling wiper

· Wiped Conductivity (with calculated Salinity and Specific conductance)

· range 0-100 mS/cm

· Accuracy ±1% of reading or 0.002 mS/cm (whichever is greater)

· Titanium construction

· Temperature

· Range -5 to 50 degrees C

· Titanium construction

· pH/ORP

· Range 0 to 14 unit measurement range

· +/- 0.1 pH unit accuracy within +/-10 degrees C of calibration temperature

· 0+/ 20 mV ORP unit accuracy in Redox standard solutions

· Response time of less than 3 seconds

· Titanium construction

· Fluorescent Dissolved Organic Matter (fDOM)

· Range 0-300 ppb QSU

· Titanium construction

· Turbidity

· Range 0-4000 FNU

· Accuracy ±2% (0-999 NTU)

· Titanium construction

· Dissolved Oxygen

· 0 to 50 milligrams per liter measurement range

· +/- 0.1 milligrams per liter or 1% of reading accuracy from 0 to 20 milligrams per liter

· Titanium construction

· Sensors with onboard memory and processing so that they may be interchangeable between sondes after calibration and configuration

· Automated anti-fouling when deployed with a wiper for field sites with variable salinity regimes

· Autonomous data-logging and self-powered when attached to water quality sonde

· Weatherproof sensor connectors

II. JUSTIFICATION FOR ACQUISITION

UPCOMING FIELD WORK: The USGS - Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center (the Center) needs to acquire multiple sensors to use with YSI EXO2 water-quality sondes for ongoing and planned marsh monitoring fieldwork. These measurements will be used to assess the water quality, sediment budget and marsh health of various marshes in Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. The sensors are usually deployed in shallow habitats along with pressure sensors and velocity profilers.

III. PROPOSED ACQUISITION METHOD

Purchase order issuance based on results of request for quote via FedBid electronic posting.

IV. EVALUATION CRITERIA

The system must meet all the requirements listed in Part I (compliance determined by the technical liaison).

V. ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS OR SOLE SOURCE JUSTIFICATION

To be determined based on the quality of bids received.
