Scope of Work
Minimum Specifications
Powered Aluminum Barge for Missisquoi NWR
Size: 35’ long x 14’ wide x 2.5’ tall. Carrying capacity of 26,000 pounds. Weight of powered barge approximately 13,000 pounds (including boat, motor, fuel, passengers and gear).
Meets US Coast Guard requirements for vessels of this size including led running lights and stern light. Minimum 3 separate internal water tight compartments in hull. Self-bailing style deck with access hatches (3) to allow access to each hull compartment with no openings in deck other than access hatches
Material: Aluminum (suggest 5052-H32 grade aluminum for sheeting, S40 6061 aluminum for angle and/ or tube materials)
.190” Thick sidewalls with full length rub rails (poly bumper boards)
.25” Tread plate top (deck). Deck painted with non-skid paint (Duraback or similar)
.25” Sheet bottom with additional .125” bow protection (beaching) plate
2” keel to assist with tracking
Console: Aluminum console located near stern on the port (left) side of the barge for steering and motor controls and placement of electrical switches. 8 gang fuse panel installed on console with leaning post seating for operator. Twin marine batteries in battery boxes with master cutoff switch mounted in console and ability to alternate power supply should one battery fail.
Motor: Twin outboard Mercury motors installed and mounted on a powered vertical jack plate to allow for adjustment as loads change waterline on vessel. Motors to be 60-75 HP with Hydraulic steering system, dual top mount engine controls, control cables, instrument harness, tachometer, and instrument harness installed on motor and console.
Appropriate propellers to be installed on motors.
Hydraulic Jack plate – 6” setback
28 gallon fuel tank with fuel filter mounted below deck. Fill mounted to console.
Trailer: Tandem Axle Gooseneck Trailer including DOT approved lighting, jack, rails, spare tire and electric brakes.

Additional Requirements:
24” box storage seat with seat cushion (2 each) located in rear corners
Rear 15 feet and stern of barge protected with round tube railing. Forward 20 feet and bow, removable aluminum posts with removable chain guards. 36” maximum height on all railings. Gate style or chain “doors” (30” wide) located port and starboard of operator’s console to allow operator access to vessel from dock.
Minimum 8 - 10” mooring cleats. Lifting eyes (8) to facilitate crane transport.
Bow ramp assembly will have pipe rungs, 10,000 pound per axle weight rating and 10 feet long. Twin davits w/winches (& metal cables) for lifting/lowering bow ramps.
Electric winches are to be of an appropriate size for the weight of the ramps and powered through sufficient wiring to assure not drop in voltage from the battery bank in the stern.
A portable and removable ramp that fits between the two main ramps for loads with narrow wheel bases will be supplied.
Automatic bilge pump (500 GPH) to be installed in each hull compartment with switches on console.
6 - Recessed D Rings – stainless steel – 5,000lbs capacity
Side Mount LED Running Lights – white color
Permanent Railing Across Transom and 20’ up each side -36” height – 30” gate on port and starboard side of console. Forward 15’ removeable chain link railing 36” height
Design Plan: Awarded vendor will be required to submit a design plan for review and approval prior to manufacturing.
