About this file
This is a specifications document for spare parts required by the U.S. Geological Survey's Reston Stable Isotope Laboratory. The USGS seeks to procure one ion source controller board and one turbomolecular pump to serve as replacement components for existing Thermo isotope-ratio mass spectrometers used in stable hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen isotope ratio research. The ion source board is a printed circuit board that must be mechanically and electronically compatible with Thermo Delta V Plus isotope-ratio mass spectrometers and controllable via Thermo ISODAT data acquisition software. The turbomolecular pump must be equivalent to Thermo part number 1289010 or an equivalent model and must likewise be controllable through the same ISODAT software platform.
Delivery is required within 60 days of order receipt to the USGS National Center in Reston, Virginia. The ion source board requires a minimum 90-day warranty, while the turbomolecular pump requires a one-year warranty. No installation, training, or government-furnished property is needed. The related Request for Quote (RFQ) Solicitation Number 140G0126Q0113 was issued on or about April 15, 2026, with written quotes due on or about April 22, 2026, and an anticipated award date of April 23, 2026. The NAICS code is 334516 with a small business size standard of 1,000 employees. Vendors must be registered at SAM.gov and may submit responses to rlanderson@usgs.gov. This procurement is being handled by the Department of the Interior's US Geological Survey Office of Acquisitions and Grants.

SPECIFICATIONS—ONE ION SOURCE BOARD AND ONE PUMP
Background:
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Water Mission Area (WMA) is responsible for developing and disseminating science-based information and tools needed for a fundamental understanding of the processes that affect the availability, movement, and quality of the nation’s water resources. In support of this mission, the Reston Stable Isotope Laboratory (RSIL) conducts research on the use of stable hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen isotope ratios of solids, liquids and gases using Thermo isotope-ratio mass spectrometers.
Scope:
This specification covers requirements for one ion source board and one turbomolecular pump that will be used as spares for the USGS’s Thermo isotope-ratio mass spectrometers. The ion source board is a printed circuit board that fits inside a mass spectrometer and provides the voltages and currents needed to produce ions in the mass spectrometer for analysis. The turbomolecular pump evacuates the mass spectrometer to the required vacuum.
Requirements:
Technical specifications of the ion source board:
(1) Ion source controller board mechanically and electronically compatible with Thermo Delta V Plus isotope-ratio mass spectrometers
(2) Must be controllable using Thermo ISODAT data acquisition and control mass spectrometer software
Technical specifications of the turbomolecular pump:
(1) Turbomolecular pump must be equivalent with Thermo part number 1289010 or equivalent pump
(2) Turbomolecular pump must be controllable Thermo ISODAT data acquisition and control mass spectrometer software
Deliverables and Delivery Dates Under this request, 1 each ion source controller board and 1 each turbomolecular pump are to be delivered within 3 months of receipt of order.
Installation, Training, and Acceptance:
No installation or training is required.
Warranty:
Minimum of 90 days for ion source controller board and 1 year for turbomolecular pump Supporting Information
(1) Place of Performance U.S. Geological Survey National Center Room 5B146 12201 Sunrise Valley Drive Reston, VA 20192
(2) Period of Performance No training is needed.
(3) Government Furnished Property None
