The end user of this equipment has been operating Trimble RTK GPS equipment to support surveys in USFWS Region 5 for 10 years. Trimble Inc. is the preferred vendor because the equipment, user interface, and operating system are familiar to the end user and will not require re-training to use.
Salient Characteristics: Real Time Kinematic GPS equipment used for topographic surveys.
Provides high precision “survey-grade” accuracy of horizontal and vertical positions at the millimeter scale. The R12i unit provides exceptional accuracy under tree cover and when tilted slightly from vertical, a feature not available with other RTK GPS units. The R12i units needs to be configured to Base and Rover mode so it can be used interchangeably as a base station or rover unit for RTK GPS surveying projects. Included with this line item is the R12i GNSS receiver unit configured to Base and Rover Mode, 1 battery, and 1 battery charger.

Justification: Trimble equipment is the standard used for this type of work within USFWS. The end user of this equipment has been operating Trimble RTK GPS equipment to support surveys in USFWS Region 5 for 10 years. Trimble technology is the preferred vendor because the equipment, user interface, and operating system are familiar to the end user and will not require re-training to use.
Salient Characteristics: Real Time Kinematic GPS equipment used for topographic surveys.
Provides high precision “survey-grade” accuracy of horizontal and vertical positions at the millimeter scale. Operating R12i and R12 GNSS GPS units requires the use of a “data collector” that operates and stores data collected by the GPS units. The TSC 5 data collector is the latest version of Trimble’s data collector hardware. These units are like an advanced calculator and have small screens capable of displaying maps and other location information necessary during field data collection. In addition, these units are relatively light weight and have superior battery life to previous data collector models. Included with this line item are 2 Trimble TSC 5 data collectors, carrying case, battery charger, and mounting clamp for securing the data collectors to a surveying rod in the field.
Line Item: 040 Trimble Controller Field Software
Product Features Manufacturer: Trimble
Name of Item: Trimble Access Model Numbers: TA-GENSURV-P and TA-GENSURV-GNSS-P
Justification: Trimble equipment is the standard used for this type of work within USFWS. The end user of this equipment has been operating Trimble RTK GPS equipment to support surveys in
USFWS Region 5 for 10 years. Trimble technology is the preferred vendor because the equipment, user interface, and operating system are familiar to the end user and will not require re-training to use.
Salient Characteristics: Trimble Access field software is designed to operating on the TSC 5 data collectors used to implement topographic surveys in the field (see line item 030). These software programs operate on the field data collectors only and do not reside on government computers. The software is designed for operating topographic surveys in the field using Trimble data collectors, such as the TSC 5. Two versions of this software are requested. The first is a perpetual license to Trimble Access General Survey. The second is a perpetual license for Trimble Access GNSS.
Purchasing field data collection software is treated as a separate line item by the vendor because there are different versions that need to be specified in a purchase agreement.
Line Item: 050 Trimble Radio and accessories
Product Features Manufacturer: Trimble
Name of Item: Trimble TDL 450H Radio and Accessories Model Numbers: 74451-92 and 51871-10-30 and 74450-14 and 52101-00
Justification: Trimble equipment is the standard used for this type of work within USFWS. The end user of this equipment has been operating Trimble RTK GPS equipment to support surveys in USFWS Region 5 for 10 years. Trimble technology is the preferred vendor because the equipment, user interface, and operating system are familiar to the end user and will not require re-training to use.
Salient Characteristics: The Trimble TDL 450H is a radio repeater used to boost the signal of the Trimble R12i and R12 GNSS receivers. This allows RTK GPS surveys to operate over an area with a circumference of 3 miles or more. Items included in this line item include the TDL 450H radio, radio antenna whip, field battery and battery charger, and bracket for mounting the radio on a surveying tripod.
Line Item: 060 Trimble 5” Robotic Total Station
Product Features Manufacturer: Trimble
Name of Item: Trimble S5 5” Robotic Total Station, DR Plus Model Numbers:
S5552210 101070-00-01 99511-30

Justification: Trimble equipment is the standard used for this type of work within USFWS. The end user of this equipment has been operating Trimble RTK GPS equipment to support surveys in USFWS Region 5 for 10 years. Trimble technology is the preferred vendor because the equipment, user interface, and operating system are familiar to the end user and will not require re-training to use.
Salient Characteristics: The Trimble 5” S5 Robotic Total Station is a device used for surveying precise “survey-grade” horizontal and vertical positions using conventional surveying techniques.
The unit has the capability to operate robotically, tracking a field operations specialist using a surveying prism. This allows for one-person operation. In addition, the total station can operate in forested cover under dense vegetation where RTK GPS signal is not accurate enough to support survey-grade applications. Items included with this line item include S5 5” robotic total station unit, battery, and battery charger.
