About this file
This document is a specifications sheet for a fluorescence microscope procurement by the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Houma Sugarcane Research Center. The center requires one upright microscope with phase contrast and fluorescent observation capabilities, brand name or equal to Olympus model BX53, to investigate pathogen infection mechanisms using fluorescence protein-tagged fungal or bacterial pathogens in sugarcane. The microscope must include standard eyepieces, 4x fluorite objectives, 10x and 40x fluorite and phase objectives, and three filter sets (DAPI, GFP, and TxRed). The unit requires a separately purchased camera not included in this specification.
The minimum technical requirements include a rotatable 5-position phase contrast turret condenser, specified fluorite lenses with phase contrast capabilities, and fluorescent components consisting of a reflected light fluorescence illuminator with 8-position cube turret, pE-300Lite LED light source with direct couple multi-band UV 400nm capability, and three specific filter sets with designated specifications. Delivery must be completed within 60 days to the USDA ARS Sugarcane Research Unit located at 5883 USDA Road, Houma, Louisiana 70360. The equipment must include a minimum five-year warranty on mechanics and optics and one-year warranty on electronics from installation completion. Facility access requires no security clearances; a Federal employee will authorize contractor access, and work must be performed Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm. The delivery point of contact is Krishna D Puri at 985-790-4978.
