1.0 Project Introduction
Project Name: Nevada Certified Water System Operator for Red Rock Canyon Visitor’s Center – Nevada Public Water System Number NV0005011 Address:
BLM-SNDO
4701 North Torrey Pines Drive Las Vegas NV 89130
1.1 Location of Facilities
(1) Red Rock Well Distribution Pump House, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89161
(2) Red Rock Visitor’s Center, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89161
(3) Red Rock Fee Station, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89161
1.2 Short Description of Required Services
This requirement is to obtain a State of Nevada certified public water system operator for the Red Rock Canyon Visitor’s Center wellhead and water distribution system. The Red Rock Canyon Visitor’s Center Public Water System is classified as a Non-Transient Non-Community Public Water System, in accordance with the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) Bureau of Safe Drinking Water (BSDW). Refer to Enclosures 1and 4 for the overall site location and layout.
The 1991 Nevada State Legislature enacted legislation (Nevada Revised Statutes 445A.875 through 445A.880) that created the public water system operator certification program. The implementation and enforcement of the regulations governing this program now falls under the authority of NDEP's Bureau of Safe Drinking Water.
The Red Rock Canyon Public Water System consists of the existing well, a water distribution Pump House with built-in treatment system, and a 10,000-gallon underground potable water storage tank. Water is pumped from the well through a meter into the pump house where it passes through the water treatment system. The water is then chlorinated and pumped into the storage tank. When water is in demand, it is then pumped out from the tank either through a 4-inch line that serves the Red Rock Visitor’s Center, or a 1.5-inch line that feeds the Red Rock Fee Station. Water flows from each feed to a booster pump and pressure tank located inside the pump house. Each line has appropriate backflow prevention and valving for operation and maintenance of the system.
The Red Rock Visitor’s Center is served by a 4-inch PVC line that extends approximately 2,082 feet from the well site. An existing 15,000-gallon storage tank at the Visitor’s Center provides both fire and domestic water needs for the Visitor’s Center and Administration Buildings.
A 1.5-inch water line conveys water from the Pump House to the existing Fee Station. Static pressure based on elevation alone is approximately 20 psi. A pressure tank is included at the Pump House to provide continuous potable water pressure at the Fee Station. There is approximately 1,471 feet of 1.5-inch pipe between the Pump House and Fee Station.
